After a successful debut in 2023, Netflix’s 'The Devil’s Plan Death Room' is back for a second season with even higher stakes. This intense brain survival game brings together contestants from various backgrounds to compete in a seven-day intellectual battle under one roof.

Season 2 features a star-studded lineup, including Go legend Lee Sedol, announcer Gang Ji Young, KAIST graduate and actress Yoon So Hee, professional poker player and music producer Seven High, former Miss Korea winner and university student Lee Seung Hyun, Seoul National University graduate and influencer Jeong Hyun Gyu, KAIST graduate and model Choi Hyun Joon, actor Justin H, Min, Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, singer Chuu, and civilian participants Kim Ha Rin, Park Sang Yeon, Son Eun Yoo, and YouTuber Tino.

At a press conference on April 29, held at Hotel Naru Seoul MGallery, Lee Sedol shared his thoughts, saying, “I joined because I thought it would be a meaningful experience, and it truly was. For the first time, I felt a competitive drive outside of Go. It was difficult to adjust to something so unfamiliar, but eventually, I had fun. Honestly, 'The Devil’s Plan Death Room' was even more challenging than Go.”

Gang Ji Young reflected on her participation, saying, “After watching Season 1, I was intrigued by the memory-based challenges. I thought I might have a chance to showcase my strengths. I really wanted to join, especially because it was produced by Jung Jong Yeon. I entered with the mindset that even if I ‘lost,’ I’d go out fighting—and I think I achieved something.”

Yoon So Hee admitted, “I generally avoid competitive shows and have turned down similar offers in the past. But I joined this time because of PD Jung Jong Yeon and some of the friends in the cast. That gave me the courage to give it a try.”

Kyuhyun said, “I’ve been in the industry for a long time and have appeared on several Netflix shows. I love Netflix and really wanted to join again. Recently, I’ve mostly been supporting others as a panelist or host, so it was refreshing to return as a contestant. I gave it my all—it was fun and fulfilling, and it’s something I’ll remember for a long time.”

Chuu shared, “I loved watching Season 1 and wanted to experience that intense competition myself. I challenged myself to discover new aspects of myself as a player.”

Lee Seung Hyun, a former Miss Korea winner, explained, “I’ve watched all of PD Jung’s shows and always wondered, ‘Why hasn’t he called me?’ I’ve already earned a title for being pretty, but now I wanted to show that I’m smart, too.”

Seven High reflected, “This experience was a completely new chapter in my life, and it was incredibly satisfying.”

Jeong Hyun Gyu said, “While watching Season 1, I thought I could do well. When the offer came, I was honored. Through filming, I discovered parts of myself I didn’t know, and I feel like I’ve grown.”

Choi Hyun Joon shared, “We live within so many rules, but this program gave me a ‘get out of jail free’ card for seven days. It was liberating and intense, and it allowed me to see people’s true selves.”

Even the civilian contestants had heartfelt reflections. Park Sang Yeon revealed, “I’ve wanted to join The Genius since it aired. I was determined to dominate the game. I thought, ‘If I win, I’ll be the youngest champion ever.’ It’s addictive, and I’m not sure I can get out of it.”

Kim Ha Rin said, “When I saw the open call for civilian contestants, I joined with the mindset that I was going to leave everything behind.”

Son Eun Yoo added with confidence, “No one knows me now, but by the end of the show, they’ll remember me for a long time.”

Finally, YouTuber Tino shared, “I’ve been playing board games for over 30 years and have followed all of PD Jung’s programs. Being cast was such an honor. It’s very different being on the show compared to watching it on TV. I gave it my all to show my best, so I hope viewers enjoy it.”

'The Devil’s Plan Death Room' premieres globally on Netflix on May 6. The first four episodes will be released in the first week, followed by episodes 5 to 9 in week two, and the final episodes 10 to 12 in week three.
