Singer and actor Lee Seung Gi has officially apologized to the victims involved in his father-in-law’s stock manipulation case and announced he will sever ties with his in-laws.
On April 29th KST, Lee issued a statement expressing, “As someone who had trusted family bonds, I cannot hide my deep sense of devastation over my father-in-law’s misconduct.” He added, “I deeply regret my previous hasty remarks without fully verifying the situation last year.”
Lee emphasized, “Illegal actions must be rightfully punished. I sincerely apologize to the victims who have suffered due to my rash judgment. I also extend my deepest apologies to everyone who trusted and supported me.”
He went on to declare, “The trust within our family has been irreparably damaged due to this incident. After long deliberation, my wife and I have decided to cut ties with my in-laws.” Lee concluded by promising, “I will strive to live with sound values and a stronger sense of responsibility for a healthier society.”
The controversy stems from a court case involving Lee Seung Gi’s father-in-law, husband of actress Kyun Mi Ri. He was accused of manipulating stock prices through false public disclosures to reap illegal profits. After a complicated legal battle, the Supreme Court overturned the previous acquittal and sent the case back for retrial, recognizing the seriousness of the misconduct.
Meanwhile, Lee Seung Gi married Kyun Mi Ri’s daughter, actress Lee Da In, in April 2023. The couple welcomed their first child in February 2024.
