National mourning period causes TV program cancellations following Jeju Air crash

In light of the tragic passenger plane crash at Muan International Airport and the ensuing national mourning period, television networks have paused their entertainment programs.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, on the morning of December 29th at 9:03 AM, Jeju Air flight 7C2216, arriving from Bangkok, crashed into the runway wall while attempting to land at Muan International Airport. Out of the 181 people on board, 179 lost their lives. The government has declared a national mourning period until midnight on January 4th. As a result, year-end award ceremonies and various performances have been canceled. 

Major entertainment programs across TV networks are also being suspended. State-run broadcaster KBS, which is responsible for disaster broadcasts, announced the cancellation of key programs such as 'AM Plaza', 'National Singing Contest', 'TV Show Authentic Masterpieces', and 'Korean Traditional Music Concert' on KBS1, in respect for the public mourning. KBS will air alternative programs to honor the tragedy.

Additionally, KBS2's 'The Seasons -Lee Young Ji's Rainbow' has confirmed this week's cancellation, with a delay in the scheduled recording. The same applies to 'Gag Concert'. Major music and entertainment shows, such as 'Music Bank', 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant', 'The Singer' in Germany, and Immortal Songs will also take a break this week to show respect for the national tragedy.

KBS will continue to cover the plane crash in detail through its news programs like In 'Depth 60 Minutes', 'See More', and 'KBS Documentary CHANG', bringing urgent updates to the public.

Meanwhile, MBC has adjusted its schedule, replacing 'Radio Star' and 'Where is My Home' with the feature films 'Single in Seoul' and 'Motel California' Premiere. However, shows like 'Hangout with Yoo', 'I Live Alone', and 'Point of Omniscient Interfere' are airing as usual. The Friday-Saturday drama 'When the Phone Rings' will also air its regular episode.

SBS, as of yet, has not announced any entertainment program cancellations. Shows like 'Kick a Goal', 'What on Earth' and 'Universe League' will be broadcast as scheduled, and the Friday-Saturday drama 'Love Scout' will premiere on January 3rd at 10 PM.

Additionally, JTBC's 'Han Moon Chul's Dashcam Review', 'Divorce Camp', Channel A's 'Trendy Men's Lifestyle', 'Family Over the Border', and TV Chosun's 'Miss Trot' will also be temporarily suspended.
