Viewers may not be able to see a second season of 'The Idol' as the ratings continue to plunge and there is growing criticism towards the creators.
On June 15, Page Six reported that show co-creator The Weeknd doesn't have plans for a second season of the controversial HBO series. This follows the continuing "backlash over outrageous sex scenes on the controversial series and the singer’s 'egomaniacal' behavior on set."
'The Idol' garnered much attention before its premiere with the news that BLACKPINK's Jennie would be making her drama debut in Hollywood. However, after the show premiered, it has faced harsh criticism for the poorly written storyline, low-quality script, and excessive portrayal of sex. It currently has a rating of just 26% on RottenTomatoes.
Jennie also had to face her share of criticism due to the provocative dance scene that left many questioning the appropriateness of the portrayal.
Nevertheless, according to HBO PR, the possibility for 'The Idol' season 2 remains wide open as there has been no final decision made yet.
