'Kpop' is now trademarked by 'Pop! Goes The World!'?

This may come as baffling news for some, but the term 'Kpop' was supposedly trademarked by the owner of 'Pop! Goes The World!' and 'N+S Ultramedia.' Though 'Pop! Goes The World!' posted the tweet about trademarking the term several days ago, it has recently come to light and has become a hot topic as many believed said tweet could possibly be problematic. Just today, they seemed to have taken down the tweet in question.
'Kpop' wasn't the only term to be supposedly trademarked, so were 'Toronto Kpop Con' and 'Kpop Con,' which have now allegedly become properties of Gerald Belanger. It's strange to think that the patent and trademark office would actually approve this since 'Kpop' is a term that has been around since even well before 'Pop! Goes The World!' was established.
Quick, someone coin another short, convenient term for 'Korean Pop'! And no, 'KPoop' is not an option.
