BTS' member Jimin who is well-versed and has performed in a wide range of dance genres such as contemporary, ballet, poppin', and hip-hop dance, was praised by Billboard Magazine in 2017 as the "Modern Dance King". He is able, just like an angel, to deliver beautiful and supple performances, as well as embodying a fierce and powerful aura on stage.
In an interview conducted by Yuka Kuwahata for mi-mollet magazine with Kim Ki-Yoon the Director of Jimin's former school the Just Dance Academy, he was described as a genius who absorbed everything like a sponge and had a teachable attitude.
In the exclusive interview released on the 13th of October, the Director of the Just Dance Academy revealed wonderful details about Jimin. He started off by saying that they first met when he was a freshman in Junior high; this was when he taught the popping class that Jimin's school used to attend for their extracurricular activities. These were held once or twice a week, and Jimin was among the twelve boys he had.
The Director said that he was impressed by Jimin because whenever he taught a wave or popping technique, he was the only one who showed extraordinary improvement, so he got attracted and asked if he would take the chance to start dancing seriously. Jimin was later invited to the Just Dance Academy, and while there, he was always willing to stand in front and take lessons from the instructor.
The Director emphatically stated that Jimin was evidently different from the thousands of students he had ever taught. This was because of his overflowing power and energy, which to maintain was something innate, adding that it was from Jimin's positive personality and sincere feelings towards life that made all possible. He always learned a dance move until he perfected it while other students would give up or even struggle with it. Because of his persistent dedication and enjoyment of the process, always with a smile on his face, the other teachers praised him as one who had a talent for dancing.
While other high school students would play after their exams, Jimin would steal to his teacher's side and say he wanted to practice more street dance which he would learn in lessons at Busan High School of Arts. He practiced a lot, even on Sundays, whether on his own or with an instructor, and whenever he taught him something Jimin absorbed it like a sponge, and the teacher thought, 'a genius really does exist'. Jimin's growth was gradual; while he was talented, it was backed by his hard work and practice, which he bore positively. Jimin was also very teachable, making teachers want to gather around him as he had an aura of intelligence and positivity, embodying what he learned as his own. This made the teacher wonder about his maturity since he was just an adolescent junior in school.
Jimin was also described as an intelligent student with leadership qualities, as he was class president for ten years; he would instruct others positively and with a cheerful spirit. He always took the initiative and engaged in play when it was time to have fun with friends. He was also very popular in Junior High school, especially among older female students, so he had many fans waiting for the lesson to end so that they would see him.
The teacher gave Jimin advice to experience the best in life, since he had the potential and knew Jimin would broaden his horizons, like joining BigHit, which would be a good fit for him to learn by himself how to be an idol. Through his experiences with famous popping instructors like Popin' Pete and becoming a BigHit trainee, even going abroad to learn made his experience grow.
Jimin majored in contemporary dance and ballet at Busan Arts High School, yet his dream was to be an artist given Jimin's potential as a dancer and ability to keep on moving forward with no hesitation, it was suggested for him to audition for BigHit when they came to Busan and Jimin agreed to do it. The teacher said he was sure Jimin would pass the audition based on his dancing skills, and it was after he became a trainee that he learned how to sing and perfect it up to now.
The Director's instruction policy is one of guiding students to find and broaden their scope because only parents can change their children. In the case of Jimin's family, his father was very supportive; he never forced his children to do things and always accompanied and waited for Jimin when he went to events, even if they went on until 2 or 3 AM in the morning. He taught his son patience and how to take responsibility for what he wanted to do making his talent bloom.
Jimin recently left his autograph at the Just Dance Academy and is keeping in contact with the director, a trait that he found commendable. They both have met several times, and Jimin is planning on having a sit down to talk with him in the future. The director praises Jimin, who has known how to balance power and relaxation when dancing; he attended their concert in Seoul, and Jimin was shining like a star on stage, and although he believes its only natural for him to succeed, he is cognizant of the pressures he has to go through as an artist.
The teacher also admitted to learning a lot from Jimin, whom he has often sought advice from in the past. At a time when he found it hard to teach a student, Jimin told him to stop trying to control his students and instead allow them to find their way. It was also revealed through the lengthy interview that Jimin would like to keep singing and dancing forever and continue learning. He would like to see Jimin do a solo concert one day and shine like an artist for a long time; something fans are definitely excited about.
He excels in such a wide range of genres. Indeed a Stage genius and Dance King. Jimin is unmatched
