Netizens are talking about GOT The Beat's recent use of Live ARs.
As many K-Pop fans are already familiar, 'Live ARs' are pre-recorded versions of the artists re-singing the song in addition to the original record and are often used in lieu of live performances. On an online community forum, a netizen wrote a post titled: "Live ARs are annoying as hellㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ".
In the post, the writer shared their thoughts on SM Entertainment's latest unit GOT The Beat and wrote:
"The sound from GOT The Beat's 'M! Countdown' performance is extremely different. When I noticed how Taeyeon's high note cracked a bit, I thought that they were comprised of truly skilled members singing live. But after replaying the video a couple of times, I noticed that it was just 100% lip-synchㅋㅋㅋㅋ I mean, if they wanted to lip-synch, then why couldn't they just play the original song? We would have just assumed that they wanted to focus on the choreography or on their outfits. What is this nonsense?"
In the top-voted comments section, other viewers wrote:
"SM fans usually embrace their own artists lip-synching while hating on other groups that lip-synch"
"The most legendary thing about all this is that the fans applaud them for their good live singing in the comments"
"Are the people asking if we must really listen to live-singing stupid? If they're not gonna sing live, then why are they idols and singers ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Isn't the job of a singer to sing? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ If they were good at dancing then why didn't they just become dancers"
Other comments include:
"The way they try to fool the audience...it's right that they should put up the 'lip synch' label in the corner whenever they broadcast a performance that's a lip-synchㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ The way they record the sound of their breath...that's literally cheating the viewersㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ The intention itself is so impure and the fact that the fans try to applaud them by saying that they are usually good at live singing is supporting this system all together ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ"
"One of the reasons why the muggles (non-idol fans) still don't give credit to the idols is this lip-synching business"
"What people need to understand is that we would understand the act of lip synching itself. But trying to play a Live AR is like the singer pretending to sing, so it really annoys the hell out of me. Just lip synch, and don't try to pretend."
"I think for the sake of real live singers, it's right for the broadcasting agencies to label the lip synch stages as lip synched"
"The most ridiculous comment I see every time is the way fans say 's/he is good so they can just lip synch because the dances are really difficult' lol the reason why live singers get credit is exactly for doing all that hard work"
"I really wish that a journalist can treat this subject seriously... These days, people criticize each other for fooling the consumers, and the influencers have to disclose the fact that there are commercials embedded in their videos. They get so much hate. But wow, the idols can just pretend as if they are live singing and they are 'understood' even after lip synching 100%....that doesn't make sense at allㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ The way that the fans try to protect them proves just how big of a distinction there isㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ they say that they are skilled even though they are lip synchingㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ aren't they embarrassed for saying such things"
"Why do they have microphones on if they are lip synching? The way they hold onto the headset mics as if they are pretending to hit the high notes is hilarious as heckㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ"
What do you think of this issue?
people generally excuse lip syncing but AR or pre recorded AR is a whole nother level of fake. Never understood why people ever let that pass. Most fans end up believing it's live when it's clearly not.
