BTS receiving digital daesang made people curious. Although Paul Kim and Kassy wereahead of BTS in digital points, half of the panelists voted for BTS.Kassy wasn't even mentioned by the panelists and Paul Kim, who released a national hit received only 13 out of 50 votes and got eliminated.
The other controvery is about Rookie Awards. GDA gave 5 rookie awards in the past and 2019 was definitely the year of rookies. After excluding X1 and IZ*one, ITZY is ahead of the other rookies by far, and the rest of rookies' stats are so close to each other. AB6IX and ATEEZ's stats are so close to TXT's but the panelists decided to award only ITZY and TXT.
Also GDA's China popularity award voting was being conducted through Chinese music streaming service NetEase Cloud Music, which was the partner of Big Hit and they while fans who have no membership to NetEase were able to vote only twice a day, fans who have membership to NetEase were able to vote 8 times a day. I don't see any Knetz who are curious about GDA's Digital Daesang this year LOL
Why BTS receives Digital Daesang in Golden Disc Awards:
- Boy With Luv is the song released in 2019 with HIGHEST total Gaon Digital Index
- Paul Kim's 'Me After You' was nominated this year due the change of counting period. It was supposed to be from December 2018 to November 2019 (continuing from last year's period) but GDA changed to last October 2018 and his song was counted. So this song was actually in selection period for both last year and this year's GDA - which actually makes no sense at all from the beginning since his song would have more than 13 months (more than 1 years) to cumulate Gaon points. If GDA didn't change selection period, Me After You didn't have chance to get nominated.
- Kassy's song has some speculation that it may be related to sajaegi. Don't you feel so strange that a song with that high results but didn't get any awards in Melon or GDA. GDA actually removes any songs that may be suspected for doing sajaegi this year from getting Bonsang.
- GDA didn't mention the period they count the digital performance of a song.
- Boy With Luv gets 1st place by Gallups survey - the entire Korean public knows this song and the effect of it is overwhelming
- "Music critic and Golden Disc Awards Executive Committee member Im Jin Mo remarked, “BTS was the icon of 2019. Based on a comprehensive review of their musical achievements and impact, they deserve to receive the digital Daesang.” A source from one of Korea’s top three music distributors agreed, “Without any hesitation, this year’s Daesang winner is BTS.”"
- The most important: they get 97.9 points(!!!) out of 100 from total evaluated point for this Daesang, making a long gap with the rest of nominees. Boy With Luv and Bangtan's impact, popularity and recognition in 2019 is undeniable.
It's not the company that makes them get all kill Daesangs, but the results and numbers are too huge compared to the rest. Why don't people understand LOL?
