Former Wonder Girls leader Sunye has expressed a positive stance on a potential group reunion, raising fans’ hopes for a legendary comeback.
On March 12th KST, Sunye will appear on MBC’s talk show ‘Radio Star’ alongside Park Kyung Lim, Ha Won Mi, and Jeong Dong Won, showcasing her variety show charm after a long time.
Sunye, who recently took on the role of Baek Hee in the musical adaptation of ‘Dream High’—a production where Park Kyung Lim serves as the creative director—credited JYP Entertainment’s vocal training methods for helping her musical performances. She explained that Park Jin Young’s famous instruction to sing with “half air, half sound” proved beneficial for musical-style singing. She also demonstrated the difference between musical vocals and regular pop singing by performing a snippet of Park Jin Young’s ‘Farewell Under the Sun’, a song she had previously featured on.
Sunye also reminisced about her time with Wonder Girls, particularly their historic entry onto the Billboard HOT 100 with "Nobody". Unlike today’s digital era with YouTube and social media, the group had to rely on traditional grassroots promotions, personally handing out flyers across the United States alongside Park Jin Young to introduce their music.
The possibility of a Wonder Girls reunion came up as Sunye reflected on their recent surprise performance at Park Jin Young’s 30th-anniversary concert, which featured artists like g.o.d, 2PM, 2AM, and TWICE. She humorously described the event as “a preview of Park Jin Young’s 60th birthday party.” When asked directly about a Wonder Girls reunion, she cautiously responded, “If the opportunity arises, I’d love to.”
Sunye also shared behind-the-scenes stories about working with BIGBANG, revealing that during year-end award shows, the two groups frequently collaborated, leading fans to dub them “Bang Girls.” Despite being the same age as BIGBANG, Sunye described a “mutual tension and politeness,” recalling that members of both groups never dropped formal speech and would seek permission for any stage interactions that involved physical contact. As both groups’ leaders, Sunye and G-Dragon had multiple collaborative performances together, making fans nostalgic for their legendary joint stages.
Sunye’s full interview will air on ‘Radio Star’ on March 12th at 10:30 PM KST on MBC.
