Two years after its initial release, Wavve’s original drama 'Weak Hero Class 1' is gaining renewed attention as it gears up for its second season. First released in late 2022, the series has recently been climbing the charts across major OTT platforms, including Netflix, showing signs of renewed popularity.
'Weak Hero Class 1' follows high school student Yeon Si Eun (played by Park Ji Hoon) as he stands up to school violence in his unique way. Though he appears fragile on the outside, Si Eun possesses an unshakable inner strength. Park Ji Hoon’s exceptional performance and realistic action scenes drew widespread acclaim both in Korea and overseas.
With the premiere date for 'Weak Hero Class 2' now confirmed, interest in Season 1 has been reignited. Since its release on Netflix on March 25, it has ranked in the TOP 10 of non-English series globally for two consecutive weeks. As viewers revisit the emotional arcs and character developments, this renewed curiosity is driving the show back up the rankings. Despite being three years since its original release, Season 1 continues to gain traction through word of mouth, showing strength in both viewership and topicality.

Season 2 will premiere globally on Netflix on April 25. It follows Yeon Si Eun as he transfers to Eunjang High School, burdened by the trauma of failing to protect a friend. There, he faces even more intense violence and embarks on a new chapter of survival and growth.
Director Yoo Su Min described Season 2 as capturing “raw emotions from the transition between boyhood and adulthood.” He added, “This season centers on the theme of ‘reconciliation’ and focuses on Si Eun’s emotional journey.” Chief producer Han Jun Hee emphasized that the story continues to revolve around Si Eun’s inner world. He explained, “Even amid fiercer conflicts, the story expands to show a young man who never loses his humanity."
Han Jun Hee continued, “Though Season 2 features bigger-scale action and heightened intensity, its heart lies in Yeon Si Eun’s next chapter. Please stay tuned to see how a character who’s cut off from the world continues his story.”
Director Yoo also noted that Si Eun’s signature “brainy action” remains a core element. He said, “His fights are more desperate in Season 2, and the story delves deeper into why he chooses to fight. There’s a stronger emotional payoff when the characters’ different fighting styles collide.”

Attention to detail was key, with the production team investing heavily in set design, music, and visual tone. The emotional resonance of the original webtoon was preserved while enhancing realism. Eunjang High School, the main setting, was filmed on an open set built from a real school building. Various key locations—like classrooms, Park Hu Min and Go Hyeon Tak’s basketball club room, and Choi Hyo Man’s hideout—were recreated to reflect natural hierarchies and dynamics through layout, size, and prop placement.
Visuals and tone also evolved for this season. Director Yoo said, “If Season 1 was a blue-toned summer, Season 2 is an amber-toned winter. The story is the same, but the approach differs. The music aims to bridge that tonal gap.” Camera work and lighting were also adjusted to better capture the characters’ emotional landscapes.
The director expressed deep trust in his cast, especially Park Jihoon. He shared, “His body and mind already remember Si Eun. Even in tough scenes, he found the answers himself."
Chief producer Han added, “Watching Park Jihoon as Yeon Si Eun through the monitor was an honor. New characters—both allies and enemies—appear before him. Through the intertwining of friendship and conflict, we hope viewers will follow the journey with him. The relationship between Park Hu Min and Na Baek Jin will also be a major focal point.”
The main poster features a scarred Yeon Si Eun staring ahead with determined eyes. Standing beside him are Park Hu Min, Seo Jun Tae (Choi Min Young), and Go Hyeon Tak—all looking in the same direction, suggesting solidarity. In contrast, Choi Hyo Man (Yoo Su Bin) and Na Baek Jin (Bae Na Ra) exude menace, while Geum Sung Jae (Lee Jun Young) wears a cryptic smile, hinting at looming conflict.
The official trailer begins with Si Eun walking through a group of delinquent students. It then introduces the school’s ruling gang, “The Union,” and its leader Na Baek Jin, setting the stage for a fierce clash. Park Hu Min’s cry of “Let’s end this, now!” launches a barrage of high-octane action scenes, raising anticipation for Si Eun’s showdown with Geum Sung Jae.
As violence escalates both inside and outside the school, all eyes are on how this conflict with “The Union” will resolve. 'Weak Hero Class 2' premieres worldwide on Netflix on April 25.
