Actor Kim Soo Hyun has been embroiled in allegations of dating a minor, drawing attention to the response from the advertising industry.
According to OSEN on March 12, Jeju Air set its 2015 advertisement featuring Kim Soo Hyun to private.
At the time, Jeju Air had appointed Kim Soo Hyun as their model to target the Asian market. For a year, he represented the airline through print advertisements, various online and offline video materials, and ads displayed both inside and outside aircraft.
This removal of his content has sparked speculation that the decision was influenced by negative public sentiment following his controversy with the late Kim Sae Ron.
However, the airline clarified, stating, “We had already set all videos featuring past advertising models, including Kim Soo Hyun, to private after the Muan airport incident in January. This decision has no connection to the recent controversy involving the actor.”
Meanwhile, as Kim Soo Hyun continues to serve as an advertising model for various brands such as Homeplus, Shinhan Bank, Tous Les Jours, Dinto, Eider, Cuckoo, Prada, Jo Malone, and Shabu All Day Restaurant, attention is focused on how these brands will respond.
Eider has removed Kim Soo Hyun’s images from its official website and social media, while Shabu All Day has also deleted all photos of him from its official social media accounts.
Homeplus removed his photo from its app loading screen, and beauty brand Dinto stated, “All planned activities related to the model have been put on hold.” However, Dinto’s CEO added, “For now, we will wait and see. Rather than being swayed by uncertain matters, I intend to focus on what I can and should do.”
