BTS’s RM has opened up about his thoughts as his military discharge date approaches.
On March 4th KST, RM posted a lengthy message on Weverse, reflecting on his time in the military and sharing his anticipation for reuniting with fans. He began by saying, “Is it spring outside? In Hwacheon, we got 17 cm of snow. I heard it’s over 20°C in parts of Jeonbuk. This truly is a country with four distinct seasons—what a magnificent South Korea.”
RM humorously described a fellow soldier building an igloo outside their barracks, adding, “There will be many memories from this place.” He also noted that university students have started their new semester and younger students have returned to school. “I’ve finally dropped the first digit of my service days,” he said, jokingly adding, “I’m marking off each day on my calendar like Robin Hood. Am I stranded? Maybe… probably.”
He also shared his habit of nightly reading during military service, revealing that he is currently reading Erich Fromm’s ‘The Art of Loving’. RM reflected on its core message: “We practice endlessly to draw well, play the guitar well, and study well—so why do we think we can love without any practice or effort? That mindset of wanting to take love for granted!”He added, “In modern society, love is often portrayed as an intense emotion or drama, but in reality, it is a solemn determination, a promise, and a resolution.”
Further contemplating the role of music and connection, RM wrote, “As musicians, what are we creating? And as listeners, what are we absorbing? What do we look at, and what do we love? What kind of determination have I had as I stood in front of you all for 11 years?” He encouraged fans to read the book, though he noted that some of its ideas may feel outdated.
With three months left in his service, RM wrote, “That’s about 18%. Will I survive until then? Of course. I have to greet you all in good health.” He playfully described time slowing down, saying, “The gravity in this mental and temporal space feels heavier. Maybe it’s because I have four stripes now. Time is crawling, but they say the military clock never stops, even if you hang it upside down. I’ll try flipping it over, spinning it 540 degrees, and whatever else it takes.”
Ending on a warm note, RM reassured fans that he is preparing to return with new stories, both through music and words. “Spring is coming! As I shovel away this 17 cm of snow, I can already feel the heat. If you ever think it’s getting too warm, don’t worry—we’ll be back soon to pester you.” He wrapped up by sending his love, signing off with: “This is both a resolution and a promise. I miss you all. Early summer and the grasshoppers—hurry up and get here!”
In response to RM’s poetic message, fellow BTS member V left a playful comment, saying, “Wait… this post sounds way too intellectual.”
Meanwhile, BTS is preparing for full-group activities after completing military service, with RM and V set to be discharged on June 10th, followed by Jimin and Jungkook on June 11th.
