Melomance has finally opened up about their past conflict rumors.
On April 23, male duo Melomance, Kim Min Seok and Jeong Dong Hwan, appeared as guests on Park Na Rae’s YouTube channel Naraesik.
Park Na Rae visited their studio with homemade food. The two revealed that they were classmates from the 2010 class at the Seoul Institute of the Arts. Park Na Rae commented, “It’s not easy to find someone you mesh this well with in the same line of work,” but then asked, “Have you ever thought, ‘I can’t do this with this guy anymore’?”
Kim Min Seok replied, “The more successful we got, the deeper the rift grew. It was really strange,” and confessed, “It was the first time we were getting this much attention. And that kind of attention makes us wonder whose credit is it?”
They shared that their conflicts escalated after the success of their hit song, “Gift,” to the point where they no longer even ate together. Kim Min Seok revealed they were constantly competing with each other for small things. He explained, "Before, back then, if the music started at beat 1, one day Donghwan would suddenly walk out first. Then next time, I’d try to go out first when the music hits." Jeong Dong Hwan chimed in, "It’s honestly so childish. So, so many incredibly petty things happened."

When Park Na Rae asked, "You didn’t even eat together?" Kim Min Seok and Jeong Dong Hwan both confessed, "How could we eat together?" and "Of course not." Jeong Dong Hwan even revealed, “I actually blocked him,” which shocked Park Na Rae. He shared, "I blocked for really a brief period."
When asked how they reconciled, Kim Min Seok explained, “One day, Dong Hwan was asked to describe me on a music show. He said, ‘He’s like an old piano.’ I completely took that the wrong way at the time.”
Jeong Dong Hwan clarified, “I meant it as a way to open the door to reconciliation. It’s a piano I’ve played since I was young, and even though I now have better pianos, it’s the one I’ve always played with, that kind of meaning.” Kim Min Seok responded playfully, “Well, you just said you don’t play it anymore,” making everyone laugh.
Kim Min Seok also recalled a moment when Jeong Dong Hwan cried while talking about him. Kim Min Seok continued, “There are many kinds of tears. I didn’t think those were tears of reconciliation. So I asked him why he cried.”

Jeong Dong Hwan said, “It brought back old memories. We didn’t even speak a word while preparing for the broadcast, but the stage went well, so it didn’t affect the performance,” reflecting on the depth of their rift.
Kim Min Seok continued, “Because even I started wondering about things. One of the producers we work with said 'It’s your last album before enlistment. Try to talk to Donghwan directly.' And I saw Donghwan completely immersed in the music. And that was during the time I was having the hardest moment of my life. So I went in carrying only that memory of him... I said, 'Let’s do it like this, like this.' And then, the Donghwan I remembered - my friend - he showed up. He just quietly said 'If that’s how you feel, Minsuk, let’s do it that way.' I still remember it."
Two years later, they met up alone. Kim Min Seok said, “We sat down with drinks, and before any side dishes even came out, we each finished a bottle. With every sip, I felt like time was rewinding, back to when we first started. I don’t like performing alone. I was about to say, ‘It was fun because you were there,’ and I got emotional.”
Jeong Dong Hwan also teared up, and said that after that moment, “Everything was resolved.”
After hearing their story, Park Na Rae told them, “Hold hands and give each other a compliment.” Facing each other while holding hands, they said, “You’re amazing,” and “Min Seok, you’re the best singer.”
