Rosé of BLACKPINK has withdrawn her membership from the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA), according to an exclusive media outlet report on February 20 KST.
Last year on October 31 KST, Rosé requested for the termination of her membership agreement with the KOMCA. Three months later, her membership agreement was formally terminated.
All copyrights associated with Rosé's music will be managed by her American label, Atlantic Records, moving forward. Atlantic Records will manage Rosé's copyrights internationally through organizations such as the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and Broadcast Music Inc (BMI). This is the method used by most foreign artists.
Regarding Rosé's move, an industry insider remarked, "There is no reason for Rosé to manage her copyrights separately in Korea and in the United States. She'd have to pay twice the fees."
Meanwhile, in South Korea, Rosé is the second musician after Seo Taiji in 2002 to withdraw from the Korea Music Copyright Association.
