Former S.E.S member Shoo blurred out on 'Masked Singer' and SM 30th anniversary concert.
Former S.E.S member Shoo faced another moment of public humiliation as her image was blurred out not only on 'Masked Singer' but also during SM Entertainment’s 30th-anniversary concert.
On the January 28th KST broadcast of SBS’s 'K-POP The Beginning: SMTOWN 30,' the program highlighted the history of S.E.S, K-pop’s first-generation girl group.
Several SM artists shared stories of how S.E.S inspired their dreams, expressing deep admiration for the legendary group. However, despite the honorable tribute, Shoo’s face was blurred in all archival footage.
Shoo was repeatedly blurred out in S.E.S’s past performances, a consequence of her past habitual gambling scandal. From August 2016 to May 2018, she was found guilty of gambling 7 billion KRW (approximately 4.8 million USD) over 26 occasions in Macau and other overseas locations. In February 2019, she was sentenced to six months in prison, two years of probation, and 80 hours of community service.
Following the controversy, Shoo was placed on KBS and MBC’s banned list for entertainers. While SBS does not have an official blacklist, it appears that her past controversy led to her being blurred out once again.
This is not the first time Shoo has faced this treatment. On the January 26th episode of MBC’s 'Masked Singer,' former Cleo member Chae Eun-jung appeared and introduced herself as having debuted alongside Fin.K.L and S.E.S. When past footage of S.E.S was shown, Shoo’s face was once again censored, as she remains banned from appearing on MBC.
With Shoo being blurred out on both MBC and SBS, the situation has sparked further discussion among viewers.
Meanwhile, Shoo was not the only former SM artist censored in 'K-POP The Beginning: SMTOWN 30.' Shinhwa’s Hyesung, who was charged with DUI, and former Super Junior member Kangin, who faced assault and DUI allegations, were also edited out.
