BOYNEXTDOOR is set to release their new digital single "Only Today I Love You" on January 6, according to their agency KOZ Entertainment.
The song is a dance track that takes a unique approach to portraying the aftermath of a breakup. Breaking away from the typical sad breakup songs, the lyrics focus on relatable, everyday situations.
In celebration of their comeback, BOYNEXTDOOR, who are starting the new year with high energy, shared a Q&A session with KOZ Entertainment about the single and their current activities:
Q: Why release a new song during such a busy time with year-end performances and your solo tour?
BOYNEXTDOOR: "Thanks to the love and support from our fans, ONEDOOR, we’ve been energized to release this song. We wanted to return the love by preparing this new track. We’re also in the middle of our first solo tour, and we thought about the fans who couldn’t attend the performances but still wanted to see us. We wanted to share this new song 'Only Today I Love You' with them. We hope everyone enjoys it as a gift!"
Q: Why did you choose to focus on a 'pathetic' image after a breakup for this song's theme?
BOYNEXTDOOR: "This single started as a curious thought, ‘What if we experienced a breakup?’ It’s like a side story. We wanted to share a new perspective, following up from our previous album '19.99,' where we showed both grounded confidence and rebelliousness. The feeling of 'patheticness' seemed to fit perfectly with the melody, and we thought it would be fresh to explore the self-deprecating side after a breakup. We think anyone who’s experienced something similar will relate and immerse themselves in the song."
Q: What efforts did you make to balance the ‘MZ breakup song’ vibe, which isn’t just sad but has a lighthearted side?
Riwoo: "Although the song is about a breakup, we focused on keeping the vocals neither too upbeat nor too sad, maintaining a balanced middle ground."
Taesan: "During the recording, I aimed to add various emotions to my voice. I also hope everyone notices the relatable lyrics, which are different from our previous songs."
Sungho: "I didn’t feel like I was just singing; I treated it like acting. I hope that emotion comes through well."
Woonhak: "I paid attention to singing as if speaking in everyday life. After performing live recently, I had forgotten how to sing with that conversational tone, but recording this song helped me rediscover that flavor."
Jaehyun: "Woonhak’s part really shows our team’s personality, so I hope everyone pays special attention to that."
Q: What are the key highlights of the song, performance, and music video?
Taesan: "In the chorus, there's a part where I make a gesture like I’m smashing a guitar, and I think that’s the killing part."
LeeHan: "As always, the charm of a BOYNEXTDOOR song lies in the witty lyrics and choreography."
Riwoo: "The performance fits the lyrics in a clever, non-cringy way."
Woonhak: "The structure of the song flows naturally, and I hope everyone enjoys that progression. And as an 'MZ breakup song,' every part is a ‘kill point.’"
Sungho: "There are a lot of details in the performance, and we practiced hard to bring those to life. There’s a scene in the music video where we play the guitar, and during the shoot, I tried various improvisations to express the emotions that came to mind. It was refreshing to act freely."
Q: What do you expect from this activity?
Jaehyun: "While preparing this song, I thought a lot about whether our fans, ONEDOOR, would like it. Through this activity, I want to give our fans great memories."
Leehan: "Since our activity period is short, my goal is to show an impressive stage. I want to live up to the 'Trustworthy BOYNEXTDOOR' nickname and make this a memorable comeback."
Taesan: "I want to see our fans happy."
Q: Your thoughts and resolutions for the new year?
Jaehyun: "Our goal remains the same every year: to show great music and performances! I’ll continue working with that mindset this year."
Sungho: "Last year, I grew a lot from all the activities we did. This year, I want to grow even more and show a better version of myself."
Riwoo: "My goal is to meet more ONEDOOR fans."
Taesan: "I’m excited for the comeback and our first solo tour right at the start of the year. I want to enjoy this year with the members in a healthy and fun way."
Leehan: "I want to continue exploring new musical ideas and stage concepts. I’m excited to show more sides of myself that you haven’t seen yet."
Woonhak: "Turning twenty this year feels special, but my goal is still the same—becoming a good adult and artist. I’ll keep growing, and I hope you all look forward to it."
