#Jimin's 'WHO' sets new All-Time Records for K-pop Soloists in the UK

Jimin on stage

Jimin’s rise as a solo artist continues to impress, following the success of his debut album ‘FACE’ and the recently released ‘MUSE.’ Both albums have earned him unprecedented achievements, especially in major music markets like Japan, the USA, and the UK. His accomplishments are not only significant for a Korean solo artist but have also set new benchmarks for K-pop in general.

In particular, Jimin has made a strong impact on the UK music scene, the world’s third-largest music market, as noted in the 2023 IFPI report. With his debut album, he became the first Korean solo artist to break into the UK Official Singles Chart Top 10 and achieved the longest-charting Korean solo song in the Top 40. Now, with his sophomore album ‘MUSE’, Jimin is continuing to break records.

The lead single from ‘MUSE’, titled ‘WHO’, has been a major hit, consistently breaking streaming and sales records for K-pop soloists on various platforms in the UK. It reached a new peak of #53 on the Apple Music Daily Top 100 chart on October 13, surpassing Jungkook and Latto’s collaboration ‘Seven’, which peaked at #63.

On the Apple Music All Genre chart, ‘WHO’ reached #33 on September 27, extending its record as the highest-ranking song by a Korean or K-pop solo artist on this chart. This surpassed the previous peak of #58 by Jungkook and Latto’s ‘Seven’. Jimin’s success didn’t stop there, as ‘WHO’ also surpassed his own group BTS’ hits, including ‘Butter’ (#35) and ‘Dynamite’ (#38), on the same chart.

What makes this even more remarkable is that ‘WHO’ is the first song by a Korean soloist to ever enter the UK Apple Music All Genre chart, initially debuting at #117 before gradually climbing up the ranks. When it broke into the Top 50, it became the first song by a Korean solo artist to do so, setting a milestone in K-pop history. As of 2024, Jimin remains the only Korean or K-pop artist to make it onto this chart.

On a different chart, the Apple Music UK-London City chart, again 'WHO,' not only made it onto the chart but went all the way to the top of the chart at #1! This was yet again another historic record, as it was the first time in history that a song by a Korean soloist or even a Korean act had claimed the title of the most streamed song in the city of London.

Looking at the official charts, 'WHO' currently holds the record as the longest-charting solo song by a Korean or K-pop soloist on the 'UK Official Singles chart' this decade, with 13 weeks on the chart and still counting. Notably, the song took this record during its 12th week on the chart after surpassing the previous record of 11 weeks held by Jungkook's 'Standing Next To You'.

Notably, on the release of 'WHO', the song had attained the highest debut (#4) for any song by a Korean/K-pop act this 2024 on this chart, beating V's 'FRI(END)S (#13), as well as the highest debut for a song by a Korean/K-pop soloist in history to surpass Jungkook's 'Standing Next To You' (#6).

On the UK Official Singles Sales chart, 'WHO' has now spent 13 weeks on the chart, to extend its record as the first and only solo song by a Korean solo artist to achieve this feat, as well as being the longest-charting song by a Korean or K-pop act in the Top 10 of the chart.

Back in the second week of its release, the song had snatched another record as the first and only solo song by Korean or K-pop solo artist to remain #1 simultaneously on both the UK Official Singles Sales chart and the UK Official Singles Downloads chart for multiple weeks (2 weeks by then).

On the UK Official Big Top 40, still in the second week of release for 'WHO', the song spent both of the first two weeks atop the chart, making Jimin the first and only Korean solo artist in history to spend multiple weeks (2) at #1 on this chart.

Jimin set another significant new record a while back as the first and only Korean/K-pop solo artist to chart multiple solo songs simultaneously on the chart with 'WHO' during its 3rd week of release, and 'Be Mine' which had an English version released that week.

On iTunes, Jimin has managed to send a whooping 16 songs to #1 on the overall songs sales chart, the first and only Korean/K-pop act to achieve this in history!

On Spotify, 'WHO' (169k) surpassed Jungkook's 'Standing Next To You' (139k) to become the solo song by a Korean/K-pop solo artist with the biggest streaming day in the history of Spotify UK's Daily Top Songs chart. as of the chart dated July 24.

Later on, as the song continued to gain traction, as of the chart dated Aug 19, it reached a new peak of #15 with 251k streams, extending its record of the biggest streaming day for a solo song by a Korean or K-pop soloist in the chart's history.

These are just a few of the many record that Jimin has broken with 'WHO' from his second album, and he is most definitely headed for more accolades!
