Phishing emails impersonating major law firms and entertainment agencies are being widely circulated, prompting warnings for caution.
On April 27, JYP Entertainment announced that emails falsely claiming to represent its legal counsel are being distributed without authorization. These emails allege "copyright and intellectual property infringement" and are designed to trick recipients into clicking malicious attachments or links.
The company emphasized that these emails are mainly sent to personal email addresses and warned users not to click on any attachments or links and to delete such emails immediately.
JYP Entertainment stated that it is actively responding to prevent further incidents and urged the public to exercise extreme caution.
In previous cases, similar phishing tactics have led to malware infections, including unauthorized access to webcams, keystroke monitoring, and data theft.
Following is the full announcement from JYP Entertainment:
Hello, this is JYP Entertainment.
We would like to inform you that emails impersonating our legal representatives have recently been distributed without authorization.
These emails claim "copyright and intellectual property infringement" and attempt to induce recipients to click on attachments, leading to malware installation.
(These emails are primarily sent from personal email addresses such as @gmail.com.)
If you receive such an email, please do not click on any attachments or links, and delete the email immediately.
JYP Entertainment is actively working to prevent further damage and kindly asks everyone to exercise special caution to avoid being affected by these phishing attempts.
Thank you.
