Actor Wi Ha Joon surprises fans with ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 spoilers.
On the afternoon of August 29, the YouTube channel ‘Zzanbro Shin Dong Yup’ uploaded a video titled “[Sub] ‘If I say more, I’ll get fired’ – Wi Ha Joon shares spoilers about Squid Game 2 #WiHaJoon | Zzanbro EP07.”
During the video, Wi Ha Joon shared his thoughts on holding his first global fan meeting. He said, “I really felt that I had gained many global fans after ‘Squid Game’ Season 1 was released. However, due to COVID-19, I couldn’t go overseas. Among the main cast, I was the only one who couldn’t go to the U.S. It was during the pandemic, and I had two projects ongoing at that time. As soon as one finished, I jumped straight into another, so I couldn’t take two to three weeks off to attend any award ceremonies or parties. I really regret not being able to go.”
When asked if he would prioritize attending global events if ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 becomes another huge success, Wi Ha Joon replied with a laugh, “If there’s a good opportunity, I’d love to go.”
Shin Dong Yup also mentioned the rapid increase in Wi Ha Joon’s social media followers after ‘Squid Game’ aired. Wi Ha Joon responded, “The numbers rose quickly every day. My Instagram followers hit 10 million. It was all because of ‘Squid Game.’ At one point, I’d wake up and see my followers had increased by 100,000 or 200,000 overnight. I think that year, Jung Ho Yeon and I gained the most followers in the shortest time. But after that, the numbers started to drop off. During that time, I was always checking.”
Wi Ha Joon also reflected on his ‘Squid Game’ audition experience. He shared, “At that time, my role hadn’t been finalized yet. I was filming another drama when the director mentioned that he didn’t want actors who were already tied up with other projects. So, I thought I wasn’t going to be part of it. But my manager told me they just wanted a casual reading, so I went in casually, wearing a cap and having just popped a pimple. I didn’t even think of it as an audition. But when I entered the room, there were so many cameras. Luckily, I had memorized the lines just in case, and I performed them comfortably. I took off my cap and acted, and I got the role. It made me realize that you always need to be somewhat prepared, and you can’t afford to be complacent.”
Wi Ha Joon then dropped some spoilers for ‘Squid Game’ Season 2. He expressed his concerns about the pressure due to the global popularity of Season 1, saying, “I’m not playing a major role this time. I’ve returned alive, and the story just shows what I’m up to. I approached it with a mindset of ‘Let’s say hello one more time.’ There’s nothing that will leave a huge impact.”
He continued, “Instead, the new characters are incredibly interesting. The game scale has grown significantly. It’s more exciting, with more to see. The character backgrounds and the set designs have all been upgraded, so I think Season 2 is even more fun.”
When Yoo Jae Pil asked for more spoilers about the story, Wi Ha Joon quickly responded, “If I say more, I’ll get fired,” sealing his lips.
‘Squid Game’ Season 2, featuring Wi Ha Joon, tells the story of participants risking their lives to become the last survivor in a mysterious survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion KRW (approximately 38 million USD). It will be released on December 26.
