If South Korea was obsessed with asking about what your MBTI was, now that phase has shifted, and the new running question is whether or not you’re a certified “kkon-dae.” ‘Kkon-dae’ is the term coined for people who act like “an older person who believes they are always right.” Often associated with a negative connotation, as the MZ generation has come, many older stars are being asked several questions to see if they qualify as “kkon-daes,” and well, let’s just say these K-stars have made the cut.
1. Brian Joo
Brian Joo is a certified ‘kkon-dae’ as he answered nearly “Yes” to all the questions asked on “XYOB” when it came to old manly habits. Despite the fact that Brian looks pretty young and is quite young at heart, don’t be fooled!
2. Jay Park
While the title of “kkon-dae” isn’t highly looked upon and if you’re labeled as one, you’re often made fun of, Jay Park had absolutely no qualms even boldly admitting that he has ‘old man’ habits and he’s not ashamed to admit it.
3. EXO Suho
During the band’s appearance on “Radio Star,” the fellow members of EXO were asked if there was anyone in the group they thought was a “kkon-dae,” and lo and behold, it comes as no surprise that Suho was the member that got chosen. From asking questions such as “If you give someone that’s your junior advice, you feel very proud” to “With your entire being, you make it obvious that you are the senior to your juniors,” the members hilariously point out the habits that make Suho a certified “kkon-dae.”
4. Girls’ Generation Tiffany
Don’t let her love of pink and all things glitter fool you into thinking that Tiffany will let things fly by. Although she is known for having one of the most chill personalities, Tiffany also has a very professional side to her. She earned herself the title of ‘kkon-dae’ after her comments on “Radio Star.” As she was sharing her experience upon seeing younger idols carry out rehearsal, she stated, “It seems as though they’re just carrying out rehearsal roughly.” Further stating that back in her times, the members, despite it being rehearsal, would have to give it their all. Of course, later on in the show, Tiffany then reasons that it’s because the juniors don’t want to waste all of their energy and save that energy for the official broadcast. But upon her statement, many were quick to call Tiffany a ‘kkon-dae.’
5. Oh My Girl Seunghee
Exuberant and social as she is, Seunghee can be quite scary when she wants to be. What brought on the label of ‘kkon-dae’ for such a sweet person like Seunghee? Well, on her appearance on “Radio Star” as well, Seunghee brought up the lack of etiquette when it came to greeting. Now if you don’t know, greetings in South Korea are a big deal breaker. Depending on how well you greet a person, your image and their impression of you change, and the reason being is because in South Korea, greeting someone basically shows the type of manners you were educated on. Let’s just say that Seunghee had a not-so-good experience when a junior group failed to greet her properly, stating that at her time, it was basic manners to go to the senior’s waiting room to properly greet.
6. (G)-IDLE Soyeon
Upon her feature in Leo J’s makeup channel, Soyeon shared that nowadays, trainees have no fear in talking back. If you were to say one thing to the trainees, they would have more than ten things to say back.
7. Seventeen Seungkwan
Labeled as a kind “kkon-dae,” unlike where most seniors would wait around for juniors to come to their waiting room, Seventeen is never one to follow the usual traditions. Rather, Seungkwan shared that instead, fellow Seventeen members would go to their juniors’ waiting room to properly greet!
