Lee Seung Gi continues his legal battle with Hook Entertainment.
On July 19, the 20th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court held the fifth hearing in the lawsuit filed by Hook Entertainment against Lee Seung Gi for the confirmation of the non-existence of debt. Both parties' legal representatives were present at the hearing.
The court stated that it is necessary to verify the basis on which the accounting details, submitted through the preparation document, were compiled.
Lee Seung Gi's attorney argued, "The objective data naturally has to be with Hook Entertainment. For 20 years, it was difficult to get even a single proper settlement."
Conversely, Hook Entertainment's attorney claimed that the data before a specific point in time is past the statute of limitations and is not retained. They added, "They have not clarified the detailed reasons why they do not retain the data. We will explain the cause of the claim based on the basic data we have."
Lee Seung Gi's side also claimed that he did not properly receive concert revenues, stating, "According to the exclusive contract, concert revenues and expenses should be settled based on a certain ratio, but Hook only provided a lump sum without any detailed account statements. Additionally, the costs claimed by Hook were not properly justified."
Hook Entertainment counter-argued, saying, "Concert-related settlements are a separate issue."
The court summarized, "It seems Hook Entertainment provided 80 million KRW (~57,649.56 USD) without revenue distribution. This part needs settlement, and Lee Seung Gi's side should request the related details."
Lee Seung Gi's side explained, "The settlement data we received revealed that there had been no proper settlement, which was part of Hook Entertainment's deception. The documents were handed over by an employee who was handling accounting at Hook after the dispute arose. Furthermore, Hook Entertainment has not submitted written statements regarding music revenue."
In November 2022, Lee Seung Gi sent a content-certified letter to Hook Entertainment, claiming that he had not received proper settlements.
In December 2022, Hook Entertainment sent Lee Seung Gi 5.4 billion KRW (~3.9 million USD) in settlement money, including unpaid settlements and delayed interest.
The case eventually went to court, with Hook Entertainment claiming they had overpaid Lee Seung Gi for advertisement activities by 900 million KRW (~648,553 USD) and demanding a refund, while Lee Seung Gi's side argued that Hook Entertainment owed him an additional 3 billion KRW (~2.2 million USD).
