The film 'The Owl (literal translation)' starring Ryu Joon Yeol and Yoo Hae Jin, has been gaining a ton of attention even before its premiere and is expected to be one of the most successful movies released this year.
'The Owl' follows the story of Kyeong Soo (played by Ryu Joon Yeol), who is a blind acupuncturist who is suffering from hemeralopia or day blindness which allows him to see in the darkness but not in the day. In order to earn money to support his younger brother, Kyeong Soo enters the palace as the royal acupuncturist. Then one evening, he witnesses the crown prince's murder, which leads King Injo (played by Yoo Hae Jin) into madness. With the king hounding down the murderer, Kyeong Soo is led to reveal the truth behind the crown prince's death.
The newest film is a historical thriller based on actual individuals in history but retold from a different fictional perspective. With a solid plot and impressive cast members, the film has caught the attention of many avid film fans and critics.
Even three days before the premiere, 'The Owl' hit number 1 in the box office reservation list. According to the Korea Film Promotion Commission's integrated computer network for movie theater tickets, 'The Owl' ranked first in the real-time reservation rate (22.1%), showing a smooth start even before its release. 2nd place was 'NCT Dream: The Movie: In A Dream,' 3rd place was 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,' 4th place was 'Decibel,' and 5th place was 'Ditto.'
