Netizens are debating why Oh My Girl's popularity may be on the wane.
On an online community forum, a netizen made a post wondering why Oh My Girl's top popularity has gone down in recent times. The original poster wrote:
"They showed a rising peak since 'Queendom' in 2019 and the releases of 'Nonstop,' 'Dolphin,' and 'Dun Dun Dance' in 2021. They entered the top yearly charts for streaming (26th place) and amassed more than 1 million views from a video by their fandom's YouTube channels alone. Arin became a BYC model and an MC.
But all of a sudden, people's interest levels went down greatly. I thought they were going to make a long-run since they rose to popularity like a steady staircase. I wanted them to become the 3rd-generation girl group version of Girls' Generation and A Pink...What's the reason for this [drop]?"
The poster then shared how there are long-run girl groups that dodid succeed in getting their songs at #1 even after ten years of being active. Examples included Wonder Girls' "Why So Lonely," A Pink's "Dumhdurum," and Girls' Generation's "Lion Heart."
In the comments section, netizens wrote:
"It is because 4th generation idols started coming out and there were so many competitive girl groups. Meanwhile, they [Oh My Girl] only made one comeback per year... The 'Real Love' song also wasn't that great so I think that's what did it"
"The quality of the songs aren't that great compared to their earlier ones and new girl groups started leveling up wildly"
"The songs need to be good but their comeback song this year wasn't that great. Girl groups rely on the popularity of the masses..."
"They repeat a lot of their own concepts. The MVs for 'Real Love' and 'Dun Dun Dance' are basically the same"
"It's because of the 4th generation lol also their earlier debut songs are much better. 'Closer' and 'Windy Day' were such legendary songs but seriously 'Real Love';;..."
What do you think?
I mean they didn't do anything for a year then their comeback this year was super underwhelming and by far their worst song ever and that song came out awhile ago and we haven't gotten new music since. No wonder they aren't dominating.
