The combination of a world-famous star and an out-of-this-world concept is generating massive buzz and impressive viewer traction.

'Kian's Bizarre B&B', a new Netflix variety show featuring BTS’s Jin in his first regular entertainment program, is gaining global popularity. The show stars webtoon artist and entertainer Kian84, who sets up a floating barge off the coast of Ulleungdo to run a youth guesthouse. Jin and Ji Ye Eun work as staff members, welcoming the guests.

This offbeat guesthouse, installed in the middle of the sea, requires guests to climb a 3.8-meter wall just to check in. To eat, they must slide down a pole to reach the first-floor kitchen. Forget soft beds—sleeping arrangements consist of outdoor beds mounted on the building’s outer wall, smaller than a standard super single, requiring safety belts for sleep.

Kian84 jokingly says he designed everything to be as uncomfortable as possible because he “didn’t want guests to feel at ease.” Watching Jin—an international superstar—brave the rain and sleep outdoors adds an extra layer of humor and charm to the show.

Unlike cozy healing shows like the hugely successful 'Hyori’s Homestay', 'Kian's Bizarre B&B' boldly breaks away from the typical comfort-driven outdoor variety format, which is part of its appeal.

As a result, since its release on the 8th, the show has ranked 6th globally in Netflix’s non-English TV category. It’s the only variety show to make the global top 10. It’s also scoring high in buzz rankings. According to the FunDex report, the show placed 2nd in the combined TV and OTT (non-drama) category, and Jin ranked 1st among non-drama performers for his popularity.

There’s more—because the show was filmed on Ulleungdo, nearby Dokdo appears as well. In episode 6, a guest is shown holding the Korean flag while touring Dokdo. The subtitles correctly label it as “DOKDO” in English and “ドクト (Dokuto)” in Japanese. This drew attention because global streaming platforms like Netflix have previously been criticized for using “Sea of Japan” instead of “East Sea” and labeling kimchi as the Chinese “paocai (泡菜).”
