Earlier, there were many speculations expecting that the Big Bang's comeback song "Still Life" foreshadowed the group's disbandment. There were many online community posts where netizens and even fans gathered clues that seemed to allude to the end of the legendary group.
Possibly due to such speculations, there were investors who started selling their YG Entertainment stock. The YG Entertainment stock was trading at around 45,300 KRW (37 USD) per share in late January 2022. After news of Big Bang's comeback, the stock steadily rose and reached a high of 71,000 KRW (58 USD) per share in April. After Big Bang's release of "Still Life," the stock dropped each day and is currently trading at 62,300 KRW per share (51 USD). In regards to this, YG Entertainment clarified that this isn't the end of the group Big Bang but a new beginning.
A YG Entertainment official explained that the success of the single is thanks to the group's musical capabilities and elaborated, "This is a result of BIGBANG’s outstanding musical capabilities, which are evaluated as an artist group with a wide range of popularity and original artistry that encompasses all generations.”
The agency explained the meaning in Taeyang's vocal part, 'A dream of a spring midsummer night's night when flowers bloom at sunset the next year / Fall, winter, snow, fall, snow, four times a year, spring again' in the end and stated that the lyrics implied that Big Bang would be eternal like the permanence of the seasons. Additionally, "Daesung, G-Dragon, and T.O.P in their respective spaces, such as a lonely mansion, an empty street, and a deserted snowy planet, implied the beautiful past, present, and future at the same time.”
The label official continued, "The moment of joy and the fierce anguish of those who were hidden behind it was revived by the double meaning in Big Bang's song - 'After rain recedes, after the end, is a happy end instead'. It reveals that the four seasons are not the end, but a new beginning.”
The YG official added, "As if the inevitable flow of the four seasons cannot be resisted, the fact that the 'symbol of spring', Taeyang, who opened up the music video, re-appeared at the end of the music video after the summer, fall, and winter passes," in turn, he symbolizes another start bringing excitement to fans.
Overall, the music video and the song send a message that the most shining moment that Big Bang missed dearly is when they were on stage with their fans and the group promises to look forward to that day which will come again.
The speculation of their disbandment based on their single is ridiculous. If they wanted to disband, they would have just done it already. It's been years since the the last release. It's not like they had to record new music. TOP is no longer with YGE yet still recorded with them. It's well known that the remaining BB members are close outside of the recording studio. I think BB would still be creating music together even if the other 3 left YGE. While their individual continued affiliation with YGE may be questionable, their status as a group isn't.
