Women began to outnumber men in Korea ever since June of 2015, and now, that number has increased by an additional 30,000.

According to recent data from the Korean government, the registered residents in South Korea total 51,664,224 people, which is an increase of 134,906 over a year ago, and the female population is growing at a faster rate than the male population.

Currently, the female population accounts for over half of the population -- 50.03% to be exact.

This is the highest increase since the government began to record their population data, and also the first time that the female population has been steadily growing since the 1960's.

The cause of this can be attributed to women living longer than men in general, but more significantly, compared to past generations that favored boys, the younger generation prefer both boys and girls equally when having children.
