The legal battle between R&B singer Hwayobi and her previous label continues as the singer declared, "I won't yield to falsehood and will take action to expose the hidden truth."
Through her legal representative the singer revealed, "I plead not guilty and have already submitted a written appeal on May 29 denying the acquittal of my past company's president." Regarding the record production investment contract, the singer asserted that in contrary to what her past label says, an 'artist consent form' never existed. She also rebutted that the label is muddling the central issue at hand by placing her under suspicion of tax evasion.
Hwayobi brought suit against her prior label's president last August for forging a 1 billion KRW investment contract and including her seal as a co-signer without her knowledge, making her liable for repayments on the investment.
However, on April 22, Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office dismissed the case due to insufficient evidence. The prosecutors ruled that the claims made by Hwayobi's side are difficult to prove. After investigations, it was discovered that among the artist consent forms, Hwayobi stamped her seal on a document titled 'album sales,' not on an record investment contract.
Furthermore, the singer's prior label, Lion Entertainment, is counter-suing Hwayobi for libel and publications-related defamation.
Lion Entertainment's legal representative Lawyer Byun stated, "Hwayobi, in order to escape the binding force of her exclusive contract and album investment contract [with her previous label], hid the fact that she is under two contracts with the company she is with now and that she still has four additional mini-albums left, and sued her prior label's president using false facts."
