On August 30 it was reported that despite efforts to work out their problems, Marco and wife, pro-golfer An Si Hyun, will be getting a divorce. This verdict stems from June reports of Marco's arrest for domestic violence.
At the time An Si Hyun explained, "It was merely just a verbal argument. I became very emotional and called the police, but it is not as bad as people think."
She continued, "I have not discussed any settlements or charges with the police. I have no thoughts of pressing any charges to my husband. I want to clear up any misunderstanding about this whole situation."
The report stated that Marco and An Si Hyun got into a heated verbal argument, which led to Marco throwing a vacuum cleaner and cellphone onto the floor. Then an emotional An Si Hyun, called the police about the incident and Marco was taken into custody. Before being released Marco was interrogated for five hours.
It has been reported that divorce was always on their minds after the domestic violence situation. As reported by media outlet EconomyTV, "Once the domestic violence case was publicized, the two individuals already agreed to have a divorce."
A rep from Marco's agency revealed the shocking news with Star news on August 30. This rep confirmed the divorce, but also revealed that the divorce is not completely settled.
The rep also revealed that Marco is currently in Argentina. He continued, "It has been about a month since Marco has left for Argentina. He has told our agency he needed some time to rest and reflect, and that he is unsure of when he will return. However, he did not mention anything about the divorce."
The two met in 2009 through a mutual friend, and after dating for 2 years the two wed in 2011. The two have 1 child together, and it is reported that An Si Hyun will have custody of their daughter.
