Weibo has asked TWICE Tzuyu's Chinese fan club 'TZUYUbar' to change their name.
On September 1, SBS News reported one of Tzuyu's largest fan clubs 'TZUYUbar' was asked to modify their name on the Chinese social media site Weibo. According to reports by Taiwanese media, Tzuyu's Chinese fan club, which includes about 230,000 members, revealed in a now-deleted post that they received a notice to change their name within 2 weeks.
Reportedly, the Chinese government found the "bar" in the name 'TZUYUbar' to be problematic under the Central Cyberspace Affair Commission, which has been tasked with "strengthening management of disorderly fandom." The changes include prohibiting the release of celebrity charts, disbanding fan clubs that raise money for celebrities, prohibiting minors from spending money to support idols, prohibiting fighting between celebrity fan clubs, and more. Internet platforms that do not follow the new measures will receive a penalty.
Previously, fans of a trainee on a Chinese survival show wasted 270,000 cartons of milk to get the QR codes on the cartons in order to cast a vote. Authorities stated, "The irrational behavior of fans of celebrities has destroyed the environment of the internet. We have begun to tighten regulations."
