Actor Yoo Ah In, who is currently awaiting a Supreme Court ruling following a drug conviction, has been nominated for Best Actor at the upcoming 23rd Directors Cut Awards for his performance in the film 'The Match'.
The Directors Cut Awards, hosted by the Directors Guild of Korea (DGK), will take place on May 20th at 7 p.m. The awards honor films and drama series released between January 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, directed by DGK full and associate members.
In the film category, nominees for Best Director include Kim Hyung Joo (The Match), Nam Dong Hyub (Handsome Guys), Bong Joon Ho (Mickey 17), Woo Min Ho (Harbin), Jang Jae Hyun (Exhuma), and Hur Jin Ho (A Normal Family).
Best Actor nominees are Robert Pattinson (Mickey 17), Yoo Ah In (The Match), Yoon Joo Sang (Seagulls of the Morning Sea), Lee Byung Hun (The Match), and Choi Min Sik (Exhuma).
Yoo Ah In's nomination is particularly controversial, as he was recently sentenced to probation in his second trial for illegal drug use, following an initial prison sentence. The prosecution has appealed the ruling, and the case is now pending a final decision from the Supreme Court.
Other acting category highlights include Kim Go Eun, nominated twice for Best Actress (The Love of a Big City and Exhuma), and Shin Hye Sun (She Died). The newcomers' categories also feature a mix of acclaimed rising talents.
Despite his ongoing legal battles, Yoo Ah In’s performance in The Match continues to be recognized within the industry, prompting mixed reactions from the public.
