TVXQ’s Yunho has recounted the story of how he first moved to Seoul to pursue his dreams on MBC’s “What Do You Do For Fun” (literal translation)!
“What Do You Do For Fun” is a new show by former “Infinite Challenge” producing director (PD) Kim Tae Ho. The idea for the new program was developed from PD Kim Tae Ho’s show on YouTube, which featured clips of Yoo Jae Suk, Jo Se Ho, TVXQ’s Yunho, and others filming their days and handing each other the camera in a relay format.
In the show, Yunho went drinking with other celebrities and talked about his personal life. He shared, “I came to Seoul alone to be a part of TVXQ. At the time, my parents’ disapproval was strong, so I decided not to ask them for money. I came up to Seoul alone with 380,000 won (approximately $323). I did part time jobs and slept outdoors to become a singer.”
The singer also talked about his grandfather, who had supported his dreams but had fallen into a critical condition in the midst of his preparations to debut. Yunho shared, “Before he passed away, he made a thumbs up sign. This is why I make a thumbs up sign in all my photos. The reason why I put my thumbs up when I want to look cool is because I want to show my grandfather when I’ve done well.”
Yunho also talked about his personal promise to not cry. However, he shared a moment in which he recently cried because he was disappointed in himself. He had gifted his father a suit for the first time for his 60th birthday, and despite his father’s stern personality, his father wore the suit and clapped happily. Yunho shared, “When I saw my father’s tears, I thought I would go crazy. I felt like I had gone too far with my excuses of being too busy because I’m a ‘top star.'”
He continued, “I used to be crazy about my friends and my work, but these days, my father isn’t well, so I’m crazy about by father.” DinDin complimented Yunho for his thoughtfulness, and at the end of the clip, the other celebrities jokingly asked DinDin if he would go so far as to be buried alive with Yunho because of his respect for him.
