In a candid interview for Vogue's ‘Leaders: 2025 Women & Work’ project, Kim Yuna opens up about the transformative journey she's been on since retiring from figure skating. Once known for her perfection on the ice, she now reflects on the vulnerability she felt when stepping into the spotlight in new roles.

“I was afraid my true self might be exposed,” Kim shares, acknowledging the anxiety she initially felt about opening up in front of the public beyond her athlete persona. Yet, she has come to embrace the change. What once felt foreign—modeling, interviews, and partnerships—has gradually become second nature.

Her partnership with Christian Dior Beauty has been a pivotal part of her evolution, broadening her perspectives and encouraging her to explore new facets of herself. Through campaigns like #DiorChinUp, Kim began to realize the weight of her influence and the power of her voice as a woman in the public eye.

While Kim retired from competitive skating more than a decade ago, she remains an enduring icon in the sport. As major events like the 2026 Winter Olympics loom, she is still a key figure in the figure skating world, receiving invitations to appear at major events and continue representing the sport she helped shape. Watching today’s competitors, she feels both pride in her legacy and relief that she no longer has the pressure of competition.

Looking back at her career, Kim reflects on pivotal moments, such as her speech at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at just 21, which pushed her far beyond the limits of comfort. "At the time, I felt so unsure of myself, but I’m proud of how far I've come."

Now, life beyond the rink is about finding balance. Kim is deeply focused on her work, family, and personal growth. She’s content with smaller joys—wrapping up projects with purpose, savoring good food, and enjoying quality time with loved ones. Her strength and brilliance extend far beyond her figure skating career, showcasing that her influence continues to inspire.

Kim Yuna’s journey exemplifies the power of reinvention, embracing change, and finding fulfillment in the simple moments that make life meaningful.
