The bereaved family of the late Sulli has finally spoken out. They are calling for statements from actor Kim Soo Hyun and director Lee Sa Rang (also known as Lee Robe), who directed the film 'Real,' which the late Sulli participated in.
On the 28th, Sulli’s older brother (referred to as Mr. A) issued a statement to the press, saying, “Over the past six years, we have spent our time in deep sorrow and tears, but we have also felt immense gratitude thanks to the support and consideration of many people.”
He added, “We could no longer ignore the death of the late Kim Sae Ron or treat it as if it were not our concern,” and offered his deep condolences to the bereaved family of Kim Sae Ron. Mr. A demanded that Kim Soo Hyun and Lee Sa Rang express their positions.
He raised the following key points.
-
He claimed to have learned from staff and actors at the funeral that the bed scene between Kim Soo Hyun and Sulli was not originally detailed in the script, and asked for Kim Soo Hyun’s explanation.
-
He stated that during filming, a body double was supposed to be present for Sulli’s nude scenes, and questioned why a body double was not used, and why Sulli was persuaded and allegedly forced into filming the bed and nude scenes.
-
He also disputed the explanation that the body double was absent due to illness on the day of shooting the bed and nude scenes, citing accounts from funeral attendees who said the double was actually on set, and demanded clarification from both Kim Soo Hyun and Lee Sa Rang.
Mr. A emphasized, “Although we learned a lot at Sulli’s funeral, we are limiting our questions to these three key facts and earnestly ask for sincere responses.”
He also reportedly sent a letter to the Korea Celebrity Suicide Prevention Association, saying he wished the bereaved family of Kim Sae Ron could receive a genuine apology and the truth. He criticized YouTuber Lee Jin Ho, who allegedly denied the issues and attacked the bereaved family, expressing hope that the family could find some relief.
Mr. A also conveyed his willingness to meet the family of Kim Sae Ron at any time to share in their pain, if they so wished.
Kwon Young Chan, director of the Korea Celebrity Suicide Prevention Association, said, “Though it’s late, we once again offer our sincere condolences to the bereaved family of the late Sulli,” and added, “We hope people will stop insulting and harassing the family of the late Kim Sae Ron with malicious comments.”
Mr. A has recently posted multiple messages directly criticizing Kim Soo Hyun. On the 28th, he posted on Instagram, “Six years since I lost my sister, six years since you toyed with her, six years of pain awaiting you—please don’t fall apart too soon.”
On the 21st, he also commented on rumors involving Kim Soo Hyun and the late Kim Sae Ron’s alleged underage relationship, saying, “My life, your life, everyone’s life is like ‘Real.’ It’s utter darkness.”
'Real,' released in 2017, was a film in which the late Sulli and Kim Soo Hyun co-starred. Director Lee Sa Rang co-founded Gold Medalist, Kim Soo Hyun’s current agency. In the film, Sulli took on scenes involving a high level of exposure.
According to Sulli’s family, after appearing in 'Real,' she said, “I’ll never shoot another movie again,” and had to undergo psychiatric treatment due to the mental stress it caused her.
