K-netizens react to court ruling in favor of ADOR, banning NJZ's independent activities

The future independent activities of NJZ (NewJeans) have become uncertain.

On March 21, the Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Agreement Division 50 (Chief Judge Kim Sang Hoon) ruled in favor of ADOR’s request for an injunction to preserve its status as the group’s agency and to prohibit unauthorized advertising contracts involving the five NewJeans members.

The court upheld ADOR’s status as NewJeans’ agency based on their exclusive contract signed on April 21, 2022. This ruling will remain in effect until the first-instance verdict is delivered in ADOR’s ongoing lawsuit to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract.

Korean netizens are not surprised by the court's ruling, as many are saying it was expected. They commented:

"The court's decision is correct. This is clearly a contractual matter, not something that can be resolved by appealing to emotions."
"This ruling was completely expected. Ignoring civil law leads to these results. Contracts don’t just disappear because someone suddenly decides they don’t want to honor them anymore. The reason they can’t find a new agency is probably because no one wants to take on the financial compensation they’ll eventually owe HYBE."
"This whole situation started because of Min Hee Jin’s tantrum. Ugh… NewJeans fans who are attacking Bang Si Hyuk need to wake up."
"The court made the right decision—it was the obvious one! Do they think they can just override the law whenever they feel like it? Lol."
"Min Hee Jin’s supporters will probably claim that the court and HYBE hired trolls to manipulate public opinion. Whatever. Feels great to see this outcome. If things went their way, contracts wouldn’t mean anything anymore."
"Even though they were in the wrong, their so-called fans just blindly support them. If you were real fans, you should have stopped them from doing this in the first place."
"On Nate Pann, they’re supposedly super popular... Meanwhile, their fans are just talking big behind keyboards instead of actually buying albums. They better be ready to fund their legal fees, cover advertising costs, and ensure concert revenue so NewJeans doesn’t have to worry."
"'NewJeans is free, and no one can stop them'. Yeah right."
"They also have to pay for the legal fees now."
"At a time when they should be enjoying their prime years and receiving love, why are they wasting their time like this? Such a shame."
"Did they really not see this coming? Did they seriously believe that fan support equated to public support? It was obvious this was just an unreasonable tantrum. The real problem is the people who encouraged them with empty words and pushed them in the wrong direction."
