ADOR, the agency of the girl group NewJeans (now known as NJZ), has requested the court to prohibit their music activities amidst an ongoing exclusive contract dispute. This is an expansion of ADOR's previous injunction request, which sought to preserve its position as the agency and prevent the signing of advertisement contracts.
On March 6th, NJZ revealed via social media that ADOR had expanded their injunction request on February 11th, asking for a ban not only on advertising but also on all music-related activities, including songwriting, composing, performing, and singing, as well as other related activities.
NJZ claimed, "While ADOR has publicly stated concerns about advertising activities and preventing confusion among fans and advertisers, the truth is they are asking the court to prohibit all entertainment activities." They added, "This is an attempt to infringe upon our freedom to work. The essence of NJZ is music, and limiting that is denying the very value of NJZ's existence."
In response, ADOR explained that, due to NJZ's expanded activities—such as the release of new songs and large-scale overseas concert announcements—it was necessary to extend the injunction request. ADOR clarified, "This is not an attempt to restrict their activities but rather a request for NJZ to continue their entertainment activities while respecting the contract." They emphasized, "We have never pressured the concert organizers, nor is the extension of the injunction a retaliatory action."
The first hearing for this injunction case is scheduled for the morning of March 7th at the Seoul Central District Court.
ADOR stated, "Tomorrow in court, we will address the misunderstandings about the artist and seek a judgment confirming ADOR as NJZ's agency, as many members are waiting for this decision."
