Gyubin has made history as the first-ever K-pop solo artist to be featured on the cover of New Musical Express (NME), the UK’s leading music publication.
On February 17th (KST), Gyubin appeared on the digital cover of NME, marking a significant milestone in her rising global influence.
Founded in 1952, NME is one of the most prestigious and influential music publications in the UK, having spotlighted legendary artists such as The Beatles, David Bowie, and Adele. Originally known for its print magazine, NME has since expanded into the digital sphere, maintaining strong cultural relevance among younger generations.
Alongside her cover feature, Gyubin participated in an in-depth interview, where she discussed her first mini-album, ‘Flowering.’
“This album feels like a precious treasure to me. It holds my heart completely, and since I participated in writing and composing every track, I hope my songs touch people’s hearts just as I imagined,” she shared.
Regarding her title track, ‘Like U 100’, she explained:
“The number ‘100’ in Korean sounds similar to the English word ‘back,’ which makes the phrase playful. It can mean liking someone ‘100 times more’ or simply expressing affection like saying, ‘I like you 100.’”
She also revealed her ambitions for the year ahead:
“I hope to have a busy and exciting year with my album release. I feel like many amazing things will happen once my album is out. If my album does well, I want my team to scream in joy! Before the year ends, I’d love to hold my first solo concert.”
Since making her official debut with ‘Really Like You’ last year, Gyubin has been recognized for her distinctive vocal tone, impressive songwriting, and composing skills. With her NME cover feature, she is expected to further expand the presence of K-pop solo artists in the global market.
Gyubin’s first mini-album, ‘Flowering,’ featuring a wide range of genres and self-written tracks, is set for release on February 26th at 12 PM KST on major music platforms and in offline stores.
