Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun opened up about her experience as the youngest member of the group, revealing that she often cried due to the playful teasing from her older groupmates.
On April 16, the YouTube channel 'Hyoyeon’s Level Up' aired a new episode titled “Seohyun is here to keep Hyoyeon in line (with informal talk) / BabsaHyo Ep.31: Girls’ Generation Seohyun.”
During their chat, Hyoyeon recalled their early days as idols and said, “All of us could be pretty mischievous back then.” Seohyun agreed, saying, “That’s true. I cried a lot. I couldn’t take jokes well when I was younger and would often cry.”
She went on to share a specific memory from a birthday during their Japan tour: “We were having a birthday party, and I went to the bathroom. When I came back, everyone was gone. I was almost in tears, thinking, ‘This is too much.’ But then they jumped out from behind the curtain with a surprise.”
Hyoyeon laughed, admitting, “We were nervous you’d think we actually left.” Seohyun smiled, replying, “I’m only telling the nice stories.”
Hyoyeon then teased, “We did pull a lot of pranks, but I think you became much stronger because of us.” Seohyun agreed, saying, “I don’t cry anymore. Now I can joke around too. But back then, I’d think, ‘Did I do something wrong?’ I was just a baby.”

The conversation also turned to how the members recently began speaking more informally with each other. Hyoyeon asked, “Didn’t we all agree to use informal speech last time? Are you doing that with Tiffany and the others now?” Seohyun responded, “Yes, I speak informally with Tiffany, Sooyoung, and Yuri.”
Seohyun explained that she first became more comfortable using informal speech during an acting project where she played a character who was the same age as a senior actor: “He told me to treat him like a friend for the sake of the role. At first, I said I couldn’t do it, but then I forced myself to say things like, ‘Hey, did you eat?’ Once I broke that wall, it wasn’t such a big deal anymore. It actually made us feel closer.”
When Hyoyeon asked Seohyun to speak to her informally too, Seohyun immediately did so, catching Hyoyeon off guard. Seohyun laughed and shared, “YoonA mixes formal and informal speech. Since I’m the youngest, sometimes I wonder, ‘Who am I to speak informally?’ So I think mixing it is a good idea.”
Hyoyeon followed up by asking, “So do you only use informal speech with Yuri, Sooyoung, and Tiffany?” Seohyun replied, “We don’t see each other often, so I mostly text them informally. I’d say things like, ‘Unnie, what are you doing?’ I felt that if I missed the timing now, I’d never be able to speak casually to them—not even until we die. Since we’ll be seeing each other for a long time, I figured now was the time.”
