On February 10th, actress Kim Hye Eun, who previously served as a main weathercaster for MBC, spoke about her experiences and shared her thoughts on the tragic incident involving the late Oh Yoanna.
Kim Hye Eun appeared on a YouTube video posted by former MBC anchor Baek Ji Yeon. In the interview, Kim looked back on her time as a weathercaster, recalling, "My first job was at Cheongju MBC. I joined in 1997 and worked there for almost 10 years, quitting after my 9th year."
When Baek Ji Yeon asked why she left MBC, Kim answered, “I wanted to leave while I was still applauded.”
Kim continued, “I had a responsibility to hire junior staff. During interviews, when they said they wanted to be like me, it made me feel conflicted. I had already been carrying around my resignation letter, but they were looking up to me.”
Originally from Busan, Kim Hye Eun studied vocal music at Seoul National University before passing the MBC announcer exam. She worked as an announcer at Cheongju MBC before becoming the main weathercaster for MBC's News Desk, where she gained national recognition. She left the company in 2004.
After her departure, Kim shifted to acting, notably impressing audiences with her powerful performance in the 2012 film 'Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time.'
In the interview, Kim also addressed the workplace bullying allegations surrounding the late Oh Yoanna, who passed away in September last year. She remarked, “In any workplace, there can be instances of bullying. It’s something that should never happen, but unfortunately, it does happen in some environments.”
She further expressed concern over the treatment of weathercasters at MBC, stating, “I don’t know the full story behind it, but when it comes to MBC, I wonder if they view weathercasters as expendable or commodity-like figures. This was something I thought about a lot at the time.”
