BigBang's Taeyang is now being spammed with hate comments, after his statements in a recent interview became controversial.
In a special New's Year's interview with CNN, the senior idol was asked by interviewer Hanako Montgomery: "You and BigBang are really pioneers when it comes to making K-pop a global sensation. How do you feel now, looking at how K-pop has really taken the world by storm?"
Taeyang answered, "Thankfully, we were able to open doors to global markets for many K-pop groups that came after us, and they can perform on world-famous stages. I wouldn't say we pioneered that, but it feels great to see that our efforts have played a part in that."
As a result, Taeyang's social media accounts are now being spammed with angry comments, most of which stating that "BTS paved the way."
As comments defending BTS fill up Taeyang's social media posts, BigBang fans are coming forward to support Taeyang in response, and the situation is getting even more intense.
Meanwhile, K-netizens are expressing their surprise and confusion at the international fan response to Taeyang's interview:
"They're just always fighting"
"It's not even a few fans doing this, it's a lot..."
"Even though I'm not a fan of either, I know it's very well-known that overseas BTS fans hate BigBang"
"That fandom is always throwing stones for no reason..."
"Why are they like that..."
In other news, Taeyang also took the recent interview as a chance to hint at a possible BigBang reunion and activities for their upcoming 20th anniversary in 2026.
