The reason for Yulhee's lawsuit against her ex-husband Minhwan has been revealed.
On November 5, Yulhee’s legal representative, attorney Yang So Young, posted a lengthy statement on her personal YouTube channel community, saying, “Hello, this is Yang So Young, the head attorney at Soongin Law Firm and legal representative for singer Yulhee.”
Attorney Yang explained, “Yulhee has filed for a modification of custody and parental rights, as well as for alimony and division of assets against her ex-husband, Choi Min Hwan.” She added, “This lawsuit is the result of Yulhee’s deep desire to ‘embrace and raise her children once again’ and was filed after careful consideration.”
She continued, “To reunite with her children as soon as possible, we will also file a ‘temporary guardian designation and child support payments.’ Yulhee has faced relentless criticism online for supposedly giving up custody, and her actions have been distorted in the media, causing significant distress to her and her children. If malicious posts or comments continue to exist, these wounds will only deepen.”
Attorney Yang also announced plans to pursue legal action against malicious comments, stating, “If those who have posted or commented maliciously promptly delete their content and apologize, we will refrain from taking legal action. However, if such malicious posts or comments remain or are posted in the future, we will respond firmly with civil and criminal actions, including claims for damages.”
Meanwhile, Yulhee married F.T. Island drummer Choi Min Hwan in 2018, and the couple has one son and two daughters. However, they announced their divorce in December last year, with custody initially granted to Choi Min Hwan. Recently, Yulhee filed a lawsuit seeking to modify custody and to claim alimony and asset division.
Below is the full statement from Attorney Yang So Young’s YouTube community post:
"Hello, this is Yang So Young, the head attorney at Soongin Law Firm and legal representative for singer Yulhee.
Yulhee (Kim Yul Hee), formerly of the group LABOUM, has filed for a modification of custody and parental rights, as well as claims for alimony and asset division against her ex-husband, Choi Min Hwan.
This lawsuit was filed after careful consideration, following Yulhee’s deep wish to 'embrace and raise her children again.' To enable her to reunite with her children as soon as possible, we will also file for a 'temporary guardian designation and child support payments.'
In the meantime, Yulhee has faced relentless criticism online for supposedly giving up custody, and her actions have been distorted in the media, causing significant distress to her and her children. If malicious posts or comments continue to exist, these wounds will only deepen.
Therefore, if those who posted or commented maliciously promptly delete their content and apologize, we will show leniency by refraining from legal action. However, if such malicious posts or comments remain or are posted in the future, we will respond firmly with civil and criminal actions, including claims for damages.
Yang So Young, Head Attorney, Soongin Law Firm"
