Former NCT member Taeil (real name Moon Taeil, age 30) has been referred to the prosecution on charges of aggravated quasi-rape. Amidst the ongoing investigation, attention has resurfaced on a post made by a Seoul National University (SNU) student two months ago, which mentioned the allegations against Taeil.
On August 28, a post titled "NCT Taeil Incident" was shared on the SNU community forum 'Everytime.' The writer stated, "The case had already been handed over to the police a month ago. It only seems sudden because it was reported today." They also claimed, "I heard it involved three males, including an NCT member. It doesn’t seem to be related to Telegram (deepfake crimes), but rather group sexual assault."
The post was created on the same day SM Entertainment announced Taeil's departure from NCT due to the allegations.
The Seoul Bangbae Police Station initially booked Taeil on June 13 after receiving a report from the victim. SM Entertainment confirmed they first became aware of the allegations in mid-August but did not disclose the exact nature of the sexual crime accusations Taeil faced.
It was later revealed on October 7 that Taeil, along with two acquaintances, had been accused of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman. The other individuals involved are reportedly not public figures.
Aggravated quasi-rape charges apply when two or more people commit sexual assault against a person in a state of incapacitation or inability to resist, with penalties ranging from at least seven years in prison to life imprisonment under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
Taeil debuted as a member of NCT in 2016, being part of both NCT U and NCT 127. Following his departure from NCT, SM Entertainment and his fellow members unfollowed him on social media, signaling a clear separation.
