K-pop Hits that are actually remakes of other songs

Some classics are so iconic that they have been remade by other artists. Several K-pop artists remake beloved hits from the past and add a fresh, modern twist to them, introducing the old musical gems to a new generation of fans.

Check out this list of remakes, which highlights how K-pop can pay homage to the original legends while revamping the track with a fresh, modern sound.


Spark [BoA]

    “Spark,” a B-side from BoA’s 2004 album 'My Name,’ is a Korean rendition of “Keep My Cool,” by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi, originally released in 2002 as a part of his album ‘Fight the Feeling.’


    Play Remix [Baby V.O.X]

      In 2004, Baby V.O.X featured American singer Jennifer Lopez in their track “Play Remix” from their last album, ‘Ride West,’ a remake of Lopez's 2001 single “Play.”


      Twins (Knock Out) [Super Junior 05]

        Twins (Knock Out) is the debut song of Super Junior 05, now Super Junior. It serves as the title track of their first studio album ‘Twins.’ Released in 2005, it is actually a remake of British band Triple 8’s 2003 hit “Knock Out.”


        Girls’ Generation [Girls’ Generation]

          The song ‘Girls’ Generation’ was initially released by Lee Seung Chul in 1989 on his self-titled album ‘Lee Seung-chul: Part 2.’ In 2007, Girls’ Generation remade the classic, adding their own charm to the hit.


          Sunset Glow [BIGBANG]

            Originally released in 1988 by Lee Moon Sae, “Sunset Glow” is an evergreen anthem. While many artists have covered and remade this hit, BIGBANG’s “Sunset Glow,” from their 2008 album ‘Remember,’ is perhaps the most iconic.


            Hot Summer [f(x)]

              “Hot Summer” by f(x) is the Korean rendition of the song by the German band Monrose. Released in 2011, this track is featured in ‘Hot Summer,’ the repackaged edition of their debut studio album ‘Pinocchio.’


              Do You Know Me? [T-Ara]

                From T-Ara's 2013 album 'Again 1977,' a repackaged edition of the EP 'Again,' the song “Do You Know Me?” serves as a modern remake of Sand Pebbles' 1977 hit “What Should I Do?”


                Second Confession [BTOB]

                  BTOB’s ‘Second Confession’ is a fresh rendition of g.o.d’s 2000 hit “One Candle.” Released as a digital single, the song serves as a heartfelt gift to their fans and marks the celebration of BTOB’s first anniversary since debut.


                  My Old Story [IU]

                    IU’s “My Old Story” is a remake of Jo Duk Bae’s 1984 hit of the same name. It was released in 2014 as the title track of her first remake album, ‘A Flower Bookmark,’ which features covers of beloved K-pop classics from the '80s and '90s.


                    Be Natural [Red Velvet]

                      Red Velvet’s 2014 digital single “Be Natural” is a modern remake of the classic hit by the iconic SM girl group S.E.S., originally featured on their 2000 album ‘A Letter from Greenland.’


                      Love Equation [VIXX]

                        VIXX’s “Love Equation,” featured on their 2015 remake album ‘Boy's Record,’ is a remake of R.ef's iconic 1995 single “Farewell Formula.” The track achieved remarkable success, topping charts and securing an all-kill across music shows.


                        Precious Love [Twice]

                          “Precious Love,” a B-side from TWICE's 2016 mini-album ‘Page Two,’ is a remake of Park Ji Yoon’s 1998 hit of the same name. Both versions were penned by Park Jin Young, better known as JYP.


                          Listen to My Word (A-ing) [Oh My Girl]

                            In 2016, Oh My Girl released “Listen to My Word (A-ing),” a remake of Papaya’s 2000 hit. The song features reggae duo Skull and Haha and is part of their debut single album, 'Listen to My Word.'


                            Come Back Home [BTS]

                              BTS's second Korean digital single, “Come Back Home,” is a remake of the 1995 classic by the legendary Seo Taiji & Boys. Released in 2017, this track was part of the ‘Seo Taiji 25th Anniversary Time: Traveler Project.’


                              Dreams Come True [aespa]

                                Aespa’s 2021 song “Dreams Come True” is a remake of S.E.S.'s 1998 song of the same name, which is actually an adapted version of the Finnish girl group Nylon Beat's song “Like a Fool,” released in 1996.


                                Candy [NCT DREAM]

                                  The timeless anthem “Candy” by H.O.T has been covered by numerous K-pop artists, with NCT Dream releasing a remake of this 1996 classic as the title track of their album, also named 'Candy,' in December 2022.


                                  FESTIVAL [Sandara Park]

                                    “Festival,” the lead track from Sandara Park's self-titled EP, is a fresh rendition of Uhm Jung Hwa’s classic 1999 hit. In a delightful twist, the veteran singer makes a surprise appearance in the music video.
