Lee Sun Gyun, currently facing allegations of drug use, has claimed he thought he was using a sleeping pill, not realizing it was a drug, during a recent police investigation.
On December 26th, JTBC reported that Lee Sun Gyun countered the statement of a nightclub manager, 'A,' saying, "I inhaled using a straw through my nose but thought it was a sleeping pill. I didn't know it was a drug."
According to the report, A provided specific dates and locations for five instances of drug use. However, there is a discrepancy between the two regarding whether Lee Sun Gyun knew he was consuming a drug. A stated, "I saw Lee Sun Gyun inhale ketamine powder using a straw. He expressed curiosity when I mentioned ketamine, so I procured it for him, and he then used it." This implies that Lee Sun Gyun was aware he was taking a drug.
However, Lee Sun Gyun has consistently denied these allegations in three police interrogations. He claims he thought the substance provided by A was a sleeping pill and had no intention of using drugs.
Lee Sun Gyun admitted to four of the five instances of drug use mentioned by A but claimed that he only took a sleeping pill once. Amidst these conflicting statements, Lee Sun Gyun submitted a request through his attorney for a polygraph test to the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's Drug Crime Investigation Unit.
The actor's lawyer told Yonhap News Agency, "We are in an incredibly unjust situation, so both Mr. A and Lee Sun Gyun should undergo a polygraph test to scientifically verify whose statement is accurate."
Lee Sun Gyun had previously been summoned to the police on the morning of December 23, where he underwent an intense overnight investigation for 19 hours before returning home the next morning. This was his third interrogation, following a brief one on October 28th and a second one on November 4th, where he provided statements for about three hours.
After the investigation, Lee Sun Gyun addressed the press, stating, "Although it's a bit late, I have completed my investigation as a victim in the extortion case today. I hope the police will judiciously determine which side's statement between me and the extortionists is more credible.
That’s right, we inhale sleeping pills through our noses.
Very normal, nothing to see here, please move along.
