On the morning of December 13 KST, a promotional press conference for TVING's original series 'Death's Game' took place in Seoul. The drama revolves around Choi Lee Jae (Seo In Guk), who stands on the precipice of hell, facing death and rebirth 12 times, guided by the judgment of Death herself, portrayed by Park So Dam.
Park So Dam, who plays the role of Death, shared her thoughts on returning to work after her battle with papillary thyroid cancer, diagnosed in December 2021, which led to surgery. She expressed gratitude for the support she received during her recovery, saying, "I believe I may have caused concern to many people. Honestly, there were certain aspects of my recovery process that proved challenging. Those who have faced similar trials will understand. Despite feeling emotionally and physically fine, there are times when I experience significant emotional fluctuations, like a drained battery."
She continued, "When I received the offer for this project, I was in a state where I couldn't even speak properly. However, the director told me there was enough time before filming and allowed me the time to heal. I gained courage through his understanding and was motivated to do my best. Although I still face occasional ups and downs that I cannot control, I find tremendous strength when I am on set. Costar Seo In Guk has been incredibly considerate as well, expressing high hopes and anticipating seeing me at my best."
Reflecting on her challenging journey while battling the disease, Park So Dam revealed, "There was a time when I couldn't even get out of bed without my father's assistance. Now, I am immensely grateful for the simple ability to move my body. One of the lines in the series is, 'Humans only die once for a long time.' Viewing this work will remind audiences of the preciousness and value of every day of life."
TVING's original series 'Death's Game' will premiere with Part 1 on December 15 KST, followed by Part 2 on January 5, 2024.
Imagine being critically ill and then have your manager send you a script to play death themselves. That's kind of wild.
