Actor Park Seo Joon, who is gearing up for the release of the Netflix series 'Gyeongseong Creature,' recently appeared on producer Na Young Seok's YouTube channel on December 12. During the broadcast, he shared insights into the challenges posed by the 52-hour workweek system introduced in South Korea.
Park Seo Joon mentioned the difficulties faced by actors in refusing work opportunities under the 52-hour workweek system, saying, "It is difficult to refuse a project." He further explained, "With the 52-hour workweek, it takes almost a year to complete one project."
In light of this, Park Seo Joon revealed his personal approach to handling work offers, emphasizing the importance of swift decisions. He stated, "I try to decline as quickly as possible out of consideration for the production team. It wouldn't be polite to leave them in suspense for 2-3 weeks."
The actor also touched upon the significance and weight associated with the term "actor." He remarked, "The word actor carries more weight than the term top star," and added, "I feel uneasy about being labeled a top star." Park Seo Joon indirectly alluded to the challenges of reaching and maintaining the top position in the entertainment industry.
'Gyeongseong Creature,' featuring Park Seo Joon and Han So Hee in lead roles, is set to premiere on December 22, with Part 2 scheduled for release on January 5, 2024. The series portrays the story of two young individuals, driven solely by survival, who confront a monstrous manifestation of greed in the darkest period of 1945 in Gyeongseong. Park Seo Joon portrays Jang Tae Sang, the owner of the most prominent pawn shop in Gyeongseong. His character becomes entangled in a quest to find his missing mistress while dealing with various challenges.
During the broadcast, Park Seo Joon candidly revealed, "I experienced burnout during the two years of filming 'Gyeongseong Creature." He shared that he had not been feeling well for some time, which had led to the postponement of fan meetings. To recover, he engaged in restorative activities such as watching movies and dramas he hadn't seen in a while and playing golf. He noted that when playing golf, he could completely disconnect from his thoughts. Now that his health has improved, he expressed his determination to work hard once again.
52 hours a week of work of filming that’s really bad Park Seo Joon needs to rest in between that’s overdoing it I understand he doesn’t want to turn producers down and he’s such a very talented actor one of my faves. I’m glad his health has improved now it’s not good he got sick because of it. His health is very important and the fans would of understood this. Health comes first. If you’re not feeling great you need to rest and recover. Burnout happens to many people when they work too hard. I’m glad he is healthy again and it’s good he did golf etc..
