FIFTY FIFTY has taken the K-pop world by storm since their debut last year, setting a new record by becoming the fast K-pop act to land on the Billboard HOT 100 ranking. Their unique combination of sound, choreography, and fashion sense has captured the hearts of fans worldwide. Many have been wondering what the secret to their success is.
Recently, the producer of the power rookie girl group sat down with MBC News to share more about the group's journey to stardom. Producer SIAHN began by sharing that he already had quite a lot of experience producing for the biggest K-pop idols in the industry. He shared, "I started out producing for some of the first-generation boy and girl groups, like Eun Ji Won, J-walk, Fin.K.L, Rumble Fish, and MC the Maxx."
SIAHN shared that one of the biggest factors the label considered in choosing the members was the musical talent, and the agency put in a lot of hard work in producing FIFTY FIFTY. He shared, "Our main focus was the musical aspect because we believe that a singer's ability to sing well is the most important thing. Of course, we also considered other factors, but we didn't want to rely solely on external appearances or try to fit music into a preconceived image."
According to SIAHN, the success of FIFTY FIFTY can be attributed to many factors, but it was the member's unique aspects that played a synergy in creating FIFTY FIFTY. He explained that he chose the members after discovering their unique talents and vocal colors that did not fit into the conventional idol image, on top of the hard work and dedication that each member showed.
The producer also noted that the success of "Cupid" came about when he focused on the fundamentals of music but also had a keen strategy to target the international market. He explained, "Our planning and strategy from the very beginning was focused on the international market. We didn't expect our group to enter the Billboard chart so quickly, but we had planned for it from the beginning, which is why we went straight to the US."
He elaborated, "Based on our projections, we felt it was best to go to the US in advance and prepare for the follow-up promotion work. We made sure all the necessary preparations were done beforehand."
SIAHN also added that the girls already have future works in plan and shared, "We also have plans for future promotions and are already under contract to proceed with them."
Just as SIAHN stated, FIFTY FIFTY has already signed a promotional contract with Warner Records, which is a subsidiary of the global music label Warner Music Group. So stay tuned for what's coming for FIFTY FIFTY!
