Singer Yoo Seung Jun (also known as Steve Yoo) has strongly denied recent online rumors suggesting that he has been performing at nightclubs, expressing his deep frustration and sense of injustice.

On April 30th KST, Yoo took to social media, posting several screenshots of articles and writing, “It’s all lies—every part of it is 100% false from beginning to end.”

The screenshots included a recent post by an anonymous netizen on an online community claiming to have seen Yoo performing at a local event or nightclub in Cerritos, Los Angeles. The post claimed, “He still introduces himself as a Korean superstar at neighborhood events and nightclubs in LA. He sings songs like "Passion," "Scissors," and "Na Na Na," goes to the gym when there are no events, and surfs or skateboards with his kids in Fairfax, Huntington Beach, or Malibu.”

In response, Yoo wrote, “It breaks my heart that I even have to react to such ridiculous articles. I know it’s bait, but I’m reacting anyway.” He added, “I’ve never performed at nightclubs, never sang ‘Na Na Na,’ never claimed to be Korea’s superstar, never surfed in California, never skateboarded, never wore a Simpsons t-shirt. I’ll admit to wearing hats and working out, though.”

Yoo also voiced frustration about South Korea’s long-standing entry ban against him, stating, “Do you know that when my citizenship renunciation was seen as an attempt to evade military service, and I was banned from entering Korea, there was no legal judgment made? Do you know that the ban has been enforced for 23 years without ever being reviewed for its legitimacy? And if it was legitimate, what is the duration of its validity?”

He continued, “To those who remember who I was, there’s no need to explain. I am still Yoo Seung Jun. I just feel sorry to those who still believe in me—that this is all I can do. I’m not saying I did everything right. It was my fault for not keeping my word.”

Yoo also emphasized that he was known in the past as an artist who never did nightclub shows, adding sarcastically, “Where is this so-called nightclub anyway? If I’d known this would happen, maybe I should’ve tried it back then.”

In 2002, Yoo renounced his Korean citizenship shortly before his scheduled enlistment, leading to a military service evasion controversy that has prevented him from entering South Korea for over 23 years.

He applied for an overseas Korean (F-4) visa in 2015, but it was denied. Although he won a Supreme Court ruling in his favor, the LA Consulate refused to issue the visa. He filed a second lawsuit in 2020 and again won at the Supreme Court in November last year. Despite this, his visa was denied once more. He is currently pursuing a third administrative lawsuit against the Ministry of Justice, seeking to overturn the entry ban.
