For the first time in Chanel history, an Asian model adorned the closing stage of the Chanel Haute Couture show alone.
At the Chanel 2023 Spring/ Summer Haute Couture show held at the Grand Palais Ephemer in Paris on January 24, Korean supermodel Shin Hyun Ji walked the stage of Chanel's closing show all by herself. Haute couture refers to tailor-made clothes using the finest materials, and in English means ‘high fashion.’
The Chanel Closing show is a stage that only world-class supermodels can stand on, and this is the first time an Asian model has walked the stage alone for the closing show.
Shin Hyun Jin had already been on the closing show with world-renowned models Gigi Hadid and Mona Tougaard back in 2021 for the 'Chanel Ready-to-Wear F/W 2020/21 collection show. At the time, Shin Hyun Ji was also able to take the title of the first Asian model to stand at Chanel's closing show.
In this show, Shin Hyun Ji walked the runway of the closing show alone without any fellow models. She was dressed in the designer's favorite piece.
An industry insider explained, "It is unprecedented for an Asian model to decorate the Chanel closing show alone, so it is very meaningful in the fashion world."
Just looked her up and apparently, she got her start on Korea's Next Top Model (the same season as Squid Games' Ho Yeon Jung too wow). That is pretty cool considering at least in the US for the majority of the show's run there was a stigma around any model that appeared on the show and yet meanwhile here she is closing freakin Chanel!
