NewJeans are really proving to be the "Monster Rookies" of 2022 as their debut tracks are continuing to top the top South Korean music chart.
The new girl group from HYBE sublabel ADOR has been setting new records with the highest first-week sales and creating the biggest buzz this year with their debut. Additionally, all their tracks have been ranking high on various music charts.
On August 15, NewJeans now have two songs, "Attention" and "Hype Boy," at #1 and #2 respectively on MelOn's TOP 100, with "Cookie" also ranking at #18.
This is a truly impressive result for a rookie group that debuted less than a month ago.
Netizens were amazed by this achievement as well and commented, "I love these two songs, it keeps playing in my head," "I like 'Hype Boy' better," "Woah, congrats," "All their songs are really good," "I want 'Hype Boy' to be at number 1 lol," "This is so crazy" "They are definitely getting the rookie of the year award," "They are really monster rookies," "Where is 'Hurt'? lol" and "Their song 'Hurt' is really good too."
Really smart of Min Heejin to go this direction. If it's true that Koreans like Western pop more than K-pop in general, then here you have a blend of the Western singing style with Kpop influences to appeal to both markets. The girls are styled like Gen-Z's version of SNSD INTW with girl next door looks.
