People have their personal preference for music, and it's only natural they don't like certain songs and prefer other songs.
However, one K-pop listener took to an online community to share their thoughts on the quality of idol music these days. The creator of the post complained that idol music quality has actually declined, and the songs are below expectation.
The netizen started off by saying, "I used to listen to a lot of idol songs in the past, but these days I am really disappointed. Honestly, I was really looking forward to IU's song, but I feel like it wasn't as good as it used to be. LILAC's performance was good, but I wonder if it was good because IU released it or if the song was actually good. The songs that were released after were disappointing too."
The poster continued to explain, "I liked BTS's 'Boy With Love' even though the foreign artist featuring was so out of the blue, but the song was good. It wasn't my taste, but I think they should do that kind of genre once in a while since they're a male idol group. However, 'Dynamite,' 'Butter,' and 'Permission to Dance' were all in English and were all singles. I like their Korean songs like 'RUN' and 'DNA.' They shouldn't just release singles but more albums because I like their non-title tracks too."
The netizen also added, "BLACKPINK just doesn't make comebacks. I like BLACKPINK's songs, but they haven't made a comeback for over a year; it's too much. Also, when I heard Red Velvet's 'Queendom,' I thought it wasn't the Red Velvet quality I was expecting. They have so many good songs, and I want them to release songs that were of high quality like before."
This poster continued to explain that the other idol groups such as Seventeen, NCT, MAMAMOO, SHINee, and more have good performance grades but the songs in themselves were not as good as before. Additionally, this netizen criticized that the newly debuted groups such as aespa and NMIXX also do not have songs that met their expectation. The poster concluded by saying, "I'm so mad there aren't songs to listen to these days. The producers are not as good as they used to be."
A heated debate was sparked because of the online community post. While some netizens agreed that the songs are not as good as they used to be, other netizens argued that this issue lies with personal preference.
Netizens debated, "I do slightly agree," "I also feel like the songs these days are not as good as they were," "I could not agree more, the songs are below expected," "This makes me mad, but I also can't deny it," "I do think it's true that the second-generation idol songs were better," "The past generation songs were better," "I think what this person said is true," and "I also feel their stage performances are not as good as before."
The other netizens argued, "I feel like things in the past always look better because you're looking through the lens of nostalgia. It's the same reason that people say that the second generation idols were better. There were a lot of good songs and bad songs in the past too," "Watch, people were saying 3rd generation idols were not that good, and people miss them now. People will say the same thing about the fourth generation idols," "I think this has to do with personal preference, to be honest," and "I think the idols these days are more talented and their songs are pretty good."
What are your thoughts on this matter?
Idk if anyone else agree but all the BTS songs after Fake Love when they were more focus on Western audience weren't good for me. My personal favorite is I NEED U and Blood, Sweat & Tears
